Julie Bowen
Baltimore native Julie Bowen was born on March 3, 1970. While she was a student at Brown University, the actress starred in stage shows such as Guys and Dolls, Stage Door and Lemon Sky. Before graduating, Bowen landed a small role in the independent film Five Spot Jewel.
Fresh out of school, Bowen appeared on the ABC soap opera Loving, as well as the television movie Runaway Daughters (opposite Paul Rudd). She later starred in films such as Happy Gilmore, An American Werewolf in Paris and Multiplicity.
Bowen returned to TV in 2000 as Carol Vessey in NBC’s Ed, which lasted four seasons. She later appeared on Lost, Boston Legal and Weeds. In 2009, Bowen joined the cast of ABC’s Modern Family.
Bowen wed software engineer Scott Phillips on September 9, 2004. They are parents to son Oliver McLanahan (born April 10, 2007) and twins John and Gustav (born May 8, 2009). The couple divorced in 2018.
