We love a prom that’s built for everyone. At the Tony Awards Sunday night, the cast of The Prom performed a medley of songs from its show, which follows a group of self-involved Broadway performers who descend on a small-town to help a lesbian girl go to prom with her girlfriend. The performance ended with nominee Caitlin Kinnunen’s Emma kissing her character’s girlfriend, played by Isabelle McCalla. It’s a big moment to put on national TV, one that also stirred a minor controversy when they did it at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. “People are just going to keep seeing it,” Kinnunen told Vulture on the red carpet before the show, “because it is what it is.” They’ll keep seeing it on Netflix as well, as Ryan Murphy has announced plans for a Prom movie for Netflix. So yes, get used to it, everyone!
