Red One was seeing yellow during production, but as the film premiered in theaters this weekend, it might take more than asparagus to get this movie into the green. Deadline reports the Christmas action film starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans is estimated to make $30 million during its opening weekend compared to its at least $200 million budget. However, it’s doing pretty well for a movie made by a streamer, surpassing Apple’s Killers of the Flower Moon’s opening weekend. Red One is on track to be the highest-grossing movie for the weekend, and in a few weeks, Johnson can say he was cooking on two No. 1 films when Moana 2 hits theaters later this month. What if Amazon Studios is working on a long holiday game for Red One? It’s still November, and maybe people aren’t ready for Christmas yet, and we don’t know yet if this movie will fall into the holiday movie rotation for years to come. At least this year it’ll have a second life in streaming, where Amazon can include ads before the movie plays for subscribers.
