A look at accessories for the smaller dock connector reportedly featured on the next-generation iPhone

Several rumors and leaks have pointed to the next-generation iPhone as having an updated, smaller dock connector. With the updated connector, this will force many accessory manufacturers to make changes to their lineup. iLounge just shared a first look at some accessories for the new dock connector. One of the accessories leaked is from company Scosche. You can see a dual-device wall charger above, from a company called the “syncABLE Pro”, featuring a cable that converts a standard microUSB cord to a compatible cord with the smaller dock connector.

Over the past few months, we got a look at several parts indicating a change. It has also been widely reported that the change will take place, which leaves some to argue whether the revamp will be 8-pin, 9-pin, or 19-pin. We found references to 9-pin within iOS 6 code.

The change will obviously take a toll on accessory and case makers, whose existing products will no longer be compatible with Apple’s latest offerings. In one way to combat the issue, Apple is reportedly introducing a revamped AirPlay to allow for easier music streaming sans Wi-Fi—leaving out the need to connect via dock.

iLounge also got a look at a case updated for the dock changes put on an iPhone 4S:

The sixth-generation iPhone is currently set to be announced at an Apple media event Sept. 12, and it will begin shipping Sept. 21, several reports have mentioned. Furthermore, the redesigned connector is also expected to be featured on Apple’s upcoming 7-inch iPad Mini and across the rest of Apple’s iOS devices thanks to a little revamp from this fall.
