Despite denial from band, U2 still set to perform at Apple event tomorrow says New York Times

Recent rumors that indicated U2 would be involved in the launch of tomorrow’s iPhone 6 and iWatch have been shot down by the band, but the New York Times said today the musicians will in fact have a role in the event. According to three sources who spoke to the Times, U2 is scheduled to perform during the event and announce an “integration” of its upcoming album with one of Apple’s new devices.

Apple and U2 have had a longstanding relationship since the launch of the original iPod, when the band revealed a special edition black and red “U2” model. Tomorrow’s event is one of the most-hyped Apple events in recent years, and has been given a full-page countdown timer on the company’s home page. Earlier today ABC News called the upcoming announcement “groundbreaking” and “historic.” It would make a lot of sense for Apple to team up with U2 again for such a big reveal.

We’ll know everything for sure when Apple reveals its new iPhones and wearable device in less than 24 hours.

  1. hmmmm not sure if that building can fit bono’s ego…

Ryan, you’ve always been a hater. Rock has been dying yet U2 is still relevant. Biggest tour of all time! 7 million fans! Boom!

    • imacaddict - 10 years ago

That’s why they’ve moved the event but you’re right it still may not be big enough room.

I hope we don’t have to add lying to Bozo ‘ s resume.
Not that I care about U2 nor want to hear them.

    Me too, Herb.

  4. My humble guess:
    iPhone’s wireless payment system will be a huge deal, a game changer;
    iWatch will just be “another premium” iPhone accessory (at least for the moment). It will be somehow the evolution of the iPod, but not much more than that;
We will finally discover why Apple bought Beats by $3 billion and it is directly related with the U2 stage thing.

I think I can agree with that. First off: Updates. (Retail stores, iPhone 5s market share, iOS 7 adoption, etc.) Then, a quick overview of iOS 8 and Yosemite. Then onto the new iPhone. Then they flash back to the Yosemite, and iOS 8 introducing slightly new features previously not showcased. Then they’re about to close when… “One more thing.” Then they showcase the iWatch, with mobile payments, that syncs to the iPhone VIA NFC.

I sure hope there’s nothing U2-related pre-loaded to the phone. No need for bloatware.

    • herb02135go - 10 years ago

You mean more bloatware. Game Center, anyone?

      • jackthias - 10 years ago

I actually like Game Center, it’s actually rather useful if you’re the kinda person who does a lot of iOS gaming. Plus, if I recall correctly Game Center has been downgraded from an app to an API in iOS 8.

It is music. You guys really need to give it a break. If you don’t like the music delete it. SMH It isn’t like it is antivirus software or something like that.

Looks like it’s going to be a “Beautiful Day”!!!

  7. My grandparents will be tuning in for sure.

U2 Happens to be an amazing band that does a lot for causes. Their original and take a stand. Couldn’t be happier if they are promoting apple and themselves.

    • herb02135go - 10 years ago

      Was an amazing pop band.

They were original. What did they stand for? Oh yea, pop music.
      Zzz

Don’t comment on a topic unless you know what you’re talking about. U2 is not pop first of all. Your ignorance is cute. Do a lil research and see all the things they stand for.

U2 is turning into the Mash theme song. When they come on you know its over and time to go to bed.

  10. Dishwater (@Dishwater) - 10 years ago

well all you have to do is find out where they currently are. If the entire band is near the event then yeah they are playing.

  11. hoog2967 - 10 years ago

Maybe a little bit wishful thinkin’ but what if U2 launch its album on new iPhone and iWatch (or how it will be called)? Thriller from Michael Jackson is with 121 million albums sold (source: Guiness Book of Records) still biggest selling album, but launching inside Apple and with Itunes now connected with official sales it can beat that… :-)

    • hoog2967 - 10 years ago

…. oh and One More Thing… U2 “Beats” Michael Jackson’s Thriller?

  12. jerryfromcan - 10 years ago

I’ll say it again… Doesn’t elevation still own a chunk of BB?

    • 1sugomac - 10 years ago

Does it really matter at this point? Bono is engaging in corporate espionage?

  13. Gregory Wright - 10 years ago

Assuming U2 will appear it was suppose to be a surprise. There is nothing wrong with denying the report in an attempt to salvage what remains of what would have been a more dynamic event.

Maybe they are not involved with today’s keynote but instead will be involved with a separate “music” keynote next month. Perhaps the white barge will be used as a demo area today and as a concert stage next month.
