Apple Pay is currently available for use in apps and in stores with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Apple Pay can also be used in apps with the iPad mini 3 and iPad Air 2.
When the Apple Watch launches on April 24th, Apple Pay will be able for iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, and iPhone 5s through the watch for use in stores as well.
You can find our running list of merchants and apps that accept Apple Pay here.

Does anyone think that one day they will add Discover Bank?
Discover wants a big cut of the profits so who knows.
No, I don’t think so. Discover has its own payment network so it’s not like just adding a bank. It involves a whole system to be brought in.
Also PayPal rode on the Discover network and PayPal pissed off Apple by agreeing to a payment app on Samsung that went absolutely nowhere. So I’m not sure what Apple’s motivation would be. I would think any Discover users who want to use Apple Pay would be best to use one of the 180 alternatives and not wait. You can always come back when or if they get it.
They’re comments “We Hope to Join Apple Pay in Future” and “We are in talks..” are disengenuous at best. I hope to get gifted a Ferrari but that doesn’t mean it will happen.
Discover single handedly lowered my credit rating from PERFECT as a result of sending me a statement AFTER it’s due date. Ever tried to get a credit score corrected FOR ANY REASON? – it’s like trying to get a politician from accepting gifts for favors! Futile! They are garbage, and besides – who the hell needs them?
Technically it’s your responsibly even if the mail man rips it up. I’ve been credit card free for 4 years because credit card companies are out to screw you. For the majority of people there is nothing nice that can come out of credit. They want you to incur interest and make late payment fees off you. Only a small percentage has the will power to pay off 100% of their balances each month. It’s a big con game.
…so how does Publix Employees Federal Credit Union beat out Ally Bank?
How does Publix Employees FCU get Apple Pay but Publix itself doesn’t support it. Maybe the employees should mention this to the bosses.
So annoying. My publix just got all new credit card machines too, without apple pay.
Publix is part of CurrentC group so they aren’t allowed to accept Apple Pay
Go go Apple Pay!
can they give us a release date for uk already? the big iPhone 6 feature is becoming a bit redundant here.
It’s so frustrating because contactless is everywhere here, and was before Apple Pay was launched. There was no need to convince retailers and banks to start adopting it. I guess it’s just because it’s a different banking system to the US and so they have to start somewhere with something.
Don’t be surprised if this NEVER comes to the UK.
Canada release date??? Why would such an important feature be such an issue to bring to a country that is literally across the boarder.
My bank (Midfirst) has finally started to support apple pay today and I went to set it up and it says that there was an issue and I need to contact them. I called them and they said that they still don’t support Apple pay…. I just want to use this feature.
Still no Discover Card…
I’m pretty sure that “ELS Federal Credit Union” is supposed to be ESL – really excited about that addition!
Corrected, yep, thanks!
And as always Europe is left paying more for the phone itself and with fewer features. Apple will release 6S before any european bank will be supported. Its just sad.
I agree, but it’s not just Apple but the European, Canadian, Australian banks that have to get on board. It takes two to tango. The best way to pressure them is to be a squeaky wheel.
The best part of Apple Pay security, tokenization, is making its way to Europe through Visa and Mastercard and will make Chip and Pin cards more secure. So you’re getting part of the engine.
Apple knew what they are getting into. Its already 6 months after iPhone 6 release.
For what it’s worth, the American technology and payment systems were probably the most out of date and in need of improvement!
The banks and payment networks have to accept Apple Pay. There are signs of progress, though – Visa says tokenisation will be available to banks as of mid-April this year, and Tim Cook commented somewhere that Apple was planning to launch Apple Pay in Europe before the end of 2015. It’s one fewer feature and no one forced us to buy the phone!
No they don’t have to accept Apple Pay at all. Why would banks give Apple a small percentage of their transaction fee if they don’t need to – and why would a retailer spend time and money on the off chance that a customer might come in who just so happens to have an iPhone 6 or 6+ who wants to use Apple Pay?
The proof is in the pudding – it’s been launched 6 months. It is still only available in the US. A relatively large number of banking institutions allow it, yet very few retailers accept it. And please remember, Tim Cook may well say “it will launch in Europe” but Europe isn’t a single entity like the US – it’s actually 50 different countries and each and every one of those countries has different rules and regulations with regards to banking.
Yeah every time we have this situation where Europe and rest of the world is left without some key feature the answer is always the same – no one forced to damn phone. Even more sad.
Sorry, you misunderstood me – I should have been a bit clearer when I typed it. What I meant is that the banks have to be able to accept Apple Pay, as in be able to accept the payments, before it can come to Europe. Retailers won’t need to spend money for Apple customers to be able to use contactless as the tokenisation changes, at least with Visa, are all at the back-end; it’s software-based and retailers won’t need to purchase new contactless terminals in most cases. The UK has had contactless payments in many retailers for quite a while, as evidenced by the fact that the maximum payment that can be made without a PIN has already been raised twice, so adoption and usage here should be more widespread, more quickly.
Povilas, I don’t really understand what you’re saying. If you have an iPhone 6 in Europe, the only thing it can’t do as a phone-specific feature that US ones can is Apple Pay, surely? If you buy the phone knowing that, as I did, what is there to not be happy about? Americans also get two-hour Amazon shipping and The Cheesecake Factory, which I would love but can’t have 😉 On the other hand, in the UK I get unlimited cellular data for £12.90 a month, which I think is about $20 – I think that might be unheard of in the US, or was for a while. We get different things depending on where we live, I guess.
Thanks for your reply Mark. If Apple Pay is just contactless payments I don’t understand why it isn’t accepted in every single outlet in the US who offer contactless payments?
The takeup from Banking Institutions in the US is pretty good, but there are THOUSANDS of them. Each state has banks & credit unions – it’s not like here in the UK where there are a few major banks and building societies – credit unions are as rare as hens teeth. You also have to remember that the UK has had the added security of Chip & Pin for over 10 years. The US doesn’t have that – they still use swiping – Apple Pay adds the level of security which is much needed.
imho anyway :)
There are some big differences in how card transactions are handled in the US compared to the UK. In the UK, we see no difference whether we’re using debit or credit – card plugs into reader and PIN gets entered, or it gets swiped over the NFC pad. In the US, you have to select whether it’s debit or credit, sometimes you have to sign, sometimes you don’t, sometimes the till/register wants ID checked, sometimes it doesn’t. Reading people’s comments on their use of Apple Pay since it was launched seems to bear this out – sometimes it just goes through, sometimes they’re asked to sign anyway, sometimes it doesn’t work even though they have selected the correct option e.g. credit for a credit card.
The US switch to chip and PIN has been prompted by the shift in liability for fraudulent transactions. The technology has been around for years, because we’ve had it, but hasn’t taken off in the States. The only reason it’s now being installed is because a deadline for financial institutions becoming liable is approaching. Perhaps Apple Pay will help the switchover onwards.
How about adding another country or two? Contact less systems are much more common in Canada and Europe than they are in the states, but still no sign of Apple Pay :-/
This is what kills me.. So many people can add their cards to Apple Pay, but the places you can use it is so limited.
North of the border it’s the opposite. Practically every place I frequent accepts contactless payments.
I know Europe is supposed to be getting tokenization this month I believe, but I wonder if Canada has it already? Or is it still in the works here too
Utah banks and CUs continue to lead the way, Bank of Utah, Zions, Mountain West, Deseret, Utah Community, GoldenWest, Mountain America, Utah First, Vectra. I think it would be hard to find a bank/CU that did not take it.
The top three Hawaiian banks are represented now and given its tourism influence they have a good penetration of NFC terminals already which will now get better. Very impressive showing with the Mobile Pay Finder app for Maui, Hawaii.
BMO Harris is a big win for Chicago and has a parent company in Montreal, Canada adding to TD, and RBC US affiliates. The long tease for Canada continues.
There are 5 additional top 100 credit Unions. Just about have all but a few of the top 20.
In my backyard of Denver, we add MidFirst, Centennial to 1stBank, Wells Fargo, BBVA, US Bank, KeyBank, Vectra, TCF. Need Bank of Colorado and a few more credit unions.
Logix Federal Credit Union and Lafayette Federal Union supports Corporate Cards along with BECU and PenFed, Doubling the number of Corporate cards supported.
Italy, maybe in 2020? :(
I believe Utah Community Federal Credit Union is supposed to be UCCU(Utah Community Credit Union), in which case, WOOT WOOT!!! Finally!
Apple’s site says Bellco Federal Credit Union (Pennsylvania) but Visa’s site says Bellco Credit Union (Colorado). I’m hoping for Bellco Credit Union. In Colorado we have good bank coverage but not many CUs.
Also Bellco Credit Union is a top 50 Credit Union (44).
Will Apple ever add the App Stores and iTunes as places that actually take Apple Pay? It’s crazy that Apple still requires me to give them my credit card number, rather than taking Apple Pay.
Hello Apple pay, this is Europe calling! When are you coming over? Please say hi to iTunes radio and hbo now. Kind regards, your average european customer…
US only, still no news for Canada eh!
“Coming to Canada in early 2015”
Waiting for support for my American Express Serve card
