Time to leave Yosemite National Park, Apple.
I get the idea, though, Yosemite improvements, so El Capitan is relevant.
Better than calling it Tioga Pass.

But next time, please give us Mount Whitney or Joshua Tree or Redwood.

Next version: Diablo (OK, maybe possibly Mojave)

      • srgmac - 10 years ago

        Remember Windows Mojave? :P

I disagree. This upgrade has been talked about as a tightening of Yosemite so it’s nicely symbolic to stay within the park.

And I climbed El Cap in the late 1970s so I’m particularly fond of the name.

Exactly. This is Snow Leopard/Mountain Lion- which is a good thing.

      • leeeoooooo - 10 years ago

Yes, I’m considering El Capitan another name for Snow Mountain Yosemite.

I still think it would have been funnier if they called it WEED. Just joking.

I think the name doesn’t roll off the tongue as easily as others. I would have picked a different name, but it’s just a name and what’s important is the product and hopefully it will be another improved OS release, which is always great.

Elcap seems to roll off the tongue quite well.

Actually, on second thought, I’d have probably gone with “Merced” which is the river that runs through Yosemite. While I think El Cap is a great cliff to climb, it’s a bit of a mouthful for an OS name.

Merced, while less known, is calmer.

I like Redwood.. rolls off the tongue easier than El Capitan..

Wouldn’t it be ultracool if The next OSX was called Integratron – which is in Joshua Tree. Especially if it were all integrated and err.. stable.

What’s “Photos Edition Extensions”? Is this supposed to be “Photos Editing Extensions”?

  3. macmaniman - 10 years ago

File copy resume looks particularly interesting

  4. Sera Murugiah - 10 years ago

Autohide menu bar – sounds cool to me

New system font?!! Does it mean OS X 10.11 will use the San Francisco font? :)

    • syth - 10 years ago

I’m not sure hat your smilie is there for.

Yes, San Francisco is the new system font in 10.11 L-Cap

      • BertyGeek - 10 years ago

That’s great! Now all systems have the same font.

  6. claytonkimball - 10 years ago

    Improved AutoFill. Thanks goodness!

THE biggest feature for me and many photographers using Mac is Photo Editing Extensions… why Apple didn’t elaborate on this is weird.. it was the most requested feature when Photos was announced for Mac last year..

I’m assuming they did not approach any third party developers before WWDC to develop plugins for Photos yet.. hopefully MacPhun and Pixelmator devs are eager to work on this.

Hopefully it’s the start of a slow replacement of Aperture.. We need some developer to make a plugin for Photos to allow flagging and Star ratings.. maybe Apple itself could add this in El Cap..

I think El Capitan is going to be easier for people to pronounce than Yosemite. Especially for people outside the US/non-english speaking countries ;D

  9. Craig Federighi actually showed the “Resizeable Spotlight window” feature on stage yesterday.

  10. Jake :) (@jacko81533) - 10 years ago

Just to point out also, Craig also showed off the “mute a tab” feature :)

    • airmanchairman - 10 years ago

Coolest feature for nuisance control. No wonder it got a big cheer…

I’ve been waiting for Find My Friends to appear on OSX for so long… Really glad it is finally coming! :)
