Netflix today has announced an update to its iOS app that ads the ability for users to subscribe to the service from within the iOS app itself. The change was announced in a new advertisement from Netflix that stars two characters from its hit show Orange is the New Black talking to an iPhone using Siri for the first time, which can be seen below. PayPal is holding a sale on iTunes Gift Cards that makes subscribing to Netflix via in-app purchase even more tempting…

The prices for Netflix subscriptions are the same via the iOS app as they are via Netflix’s website. This is an interesting move on Netflix’s part, seeing that Apple will take a 30 percent cut of revenue from any subscription that is processed via the in-app purchase functionality of the app. Although, it’s possible that Netflix negotiated with Apple to bring that 30 percent number down.
9to5Toys notes that PayPal via its official eBay store is offering a $100 iTunes Gift Card for just $80 with email delivery (direct link). For those doing the math, that deal could get you two free months of Netflix (or HBO or Apple Music, etc) for free over the course of a year. PayPal says that most codes will be emailed within a few hours of purchase, meaning you’ll be able to start spending almost instantly.
You can download Netflix for iOS from the App Store now for free.

It was the only way for me to pay for Netflix (for over a year now)
Something seems different about the pricing tiers between iap and traditional payments.
I’m currently subscribed to the “2 Screens + HD” plan for $7.99, billed monthly to my credit card. However, that same plan on the iap is $8.99/mo. Still a savings of around $0.80/mo—or roughly 1 free month/year—with 20% discounted iTunes cards …
It looks like they’ve changed prices..again. Your 2 screen + HD is $8.99 on the web now too.
I just checked mine and it says $7.99
Pay through iTunes and then to share the account with family all you have to do is… Uh oh. They got me.
