Apple announces redesigned Beats iPhone 16 case with sapphire crystal Camera Control

Beats surprised us all in September when the Apple-owned audio company launched its first line of iPhone cases. It turns out Beats has even more to offer for the iPhone 16 line with a second design launching this week.

For background, Apple dropped its problematic FineWoven iPhone case line that was introduced to replace Apple leather cases. Taking its place? The Beats-branded plastic case offering with an open bottom.

The first edition comes in four color options for iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Max:

  • Midnight Black
  • Summit Stone
  • Riptide Blue
  • Sunset Purple

Beats describes today’s new additions as Special Edition with Sunrise Pink and Twilight Blue joining the line. Why special edition? The MagSafe outline on the back is replaced with the Beats b logo. Both versions include MagSafe compatibility. The other versions have a logo that spells out “beats” beneath the volume buttons. All models carry the same $49 price tag.

Here’s the product description from Beats:

The hardshell polycarbonate back is complemented by flexible sidewalls to optimize shock absorption, while making the case thin, light and easy to grip. The smooth outer surface is treated with a glossy scratch-resistant coating for extra protection, and the soft microfiber lining protects the iPhone. Beats cases work seamlessly with the new Camera Control on the iPhone 16 lineup, featuring a sapphire crystal coupled to a conductive layer that communicates finger movements to the Camera Control.

Thoughts? I’m partial to the new Twilight Blue option, especially with the blue iPhone 16, although Riptide Blue has the coolest color name yet.

Here’s a look at the front and back of each version:
