I’ve been a CleanMyMac subscriber for nearly a decade, and I’ve been truly impressed by the app’s recent focus on providing Mac users with simple yet effective malware detection and prevention features. So, when MacPaw offered to fly me out to Kyiv, Ukraine, to meet and interview the folks leading Moonlock, its cybersecurity division, I jumped at the opportunity.

This interview is divided into three parts: About Moonlock, the technology behind the Moonlock Engine, and what’s planned for the future.

Disclosure: Ukraine is a country at war. Many members of the Moonlock team also aid in the defense of their country, so false names may be used below to protect their identity. Some parts of the transcript were edited for clarity.

Gemini Photos uses machine learning to reduce iPhone clutter and save storage

Gemini Photos is a new iPhone app from MacPaw that uses machine learning to help you clean up your photo library and free up storage space. The new app marks the first iOS app from MacPaw, which makes CleanMyMac 3, Gemini 2, and the app subscription service Setapp for Mac. Similar to Gemini for Mac, Gemini Photos for iOS specializes in finding similar images and even photos that it believes may be notes so you can slim down your photo library to just the images you want to keep.

MacPaw’s Gemini 2 intelligently finds duplicates to free space on your Mac

One of the most frustrating parts about keeping a large photo collection (75,000 and growing), is that I often end up with duplicates over years of maintenance. I’ve spent my fair share cleaning and sorting my library, but it always seems like an album sneaks in with duplicate photos. I’ve been an active user of MacPaw’s Gemini software since its inception, and Gemini 2’s release today has made me fall in love with it all over again. In just the initial scan, Gemini 2 found more files and more places where I could intelligently clear and save space on my Mac.
