Which Magic Keyboard is compatible with your iPad? Find out here

Magic Keyboard compatibility

Apple’s line of Magic Keyboard accessories for iPad is always changing, and it can be hard to keep up with which Magic Keyboard will work with your iPad model. But most iPad models do offer support for a version of Magic Keyboard, you just need to know which one.

That’s why we’ve assembled this guide to outline exactly which Magic Keyboards will and won’t work with the various iPad Pro, iPad Air, and base-model iPads currently available.

You can actually use your old Magic Keyboard with the M4 iPad Pro – but it won’t look good

Apple Magic Keyboard iPad Pro

With the launch of the M4 iPad Pro, Apple also introduced a new version of the Magic Keyboard with improvements such as a row of function keys and an aluminum finish. However, because of the iPad’s new design, Apple says that the old Magic Keyboard doesn’t work with the M4 iPad Pro – although users have already figured out that there’s an unconventional way to use it.

New Magic Keyboard is a surprisingly compelling reason to upgrade to an M4 iPad Pro

M4 iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard

The M4 iPad Pro has a lot going for it to tempt prospective buyers. Whether you’re coming from a 2018 iPad Pro like me, or a newer M-class iPad, there are plenty of great reasons to upgrade to the new iPad Pro. The OLED display can’t be beat; the M4 chip is unmatched in Apple’s lineup; and on a lesser note, there’s even a color-matched USB-C cable with the space black model.

The upgrade incentive I didn’t really expect, but that’s hitting me hardest today, is just how much better the new Magic Keyboard is than its predecessor.

And yes, sadly the new keyboard is exclusive to the M4 iPad Pro.

A Magic Keyboard Pro could push even more people to the MacBook Air

Magic Keyboard Pro could push even more to the MacBook Air (shown)

Alongside the new iPads, we’re expecting Apple to launch a new design of iPad keyboard case today, potentially branded as the Magic Keyboard Pro.

This could give the iPad Pro and keyboard combo a more MacBook-like appearance – but could also lead a growing number of would-be iPad Pro buyers to conclude that they’d be better off with a MacBook Air …

The time may be right for a Magic Keyboard Pro and Apple Pencil Pro

iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard Pro and Apple Pencil Pro

Tomorrow at the ‘Let loose’ event, Apple is expected to debut next-generation iPad Pro and iPad Air models alongside some brand new iPad accessories.

The iPad Pro seems set to be the focal point, with a brand new OLED display, thinner body, and very possibly the launch of Apple’s M4 chip. New versions of the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil are also expected, both of which will likely be exclusive to the iPad Pro.

Evidence found on Apple’s Japanese site suggests the new Pencil may be dubbed the Apple Pencil Pro. Which got me thinking: adding the Pro name to the Magic Keyboard makes a lot of sense too, especially since only the new iPad Pro will support it.

Here’s why it may be just the right time for a Magic Keyboard Pro and Apple Pencil Pro.

Review: Keychron Q1 Pro leaves just one reason to even consider Apple’s Magic Keyboard

Keychron Q1 Pro mechanical keyboard

Keychron launched their Q1 Pro keyboard earlier this year. It’s a customizable mechanical keyboard designed to work great with Macs or Windows PCs. It’s a really high quality device, and I’ve been using it as my primary keyboard for some time now, so here are my thoughts on the Keychron Q1 Pro and why you should consider it over Apple’s Magic Keyboard.

Satechi Slim X3 Bluetooth Backlit Keyboard review: A more affordable alternative to the Magic Keyboard

satechi keyboard

Designed with Apple users in mind, the Satechi Slim X3 Backlit Keyboard is a cost-effective alternative to Apple’s Magic Keyboard. It has some of the same features of the Magic Keyboard as well as some additional ones.

I’ll be comparing the Satechi keyboard to Apple’s Magic Keyboards (without Touch ID, with Touch ID, numerical with Touch ID). Here’s how Satechi stands against Apple.
