Samsung’s newest ‘Family Hub’ refrigerator sports a Tesla-like 21-inch 1080p display

As CES 2016 gets underway out in Las Vegas, we’re beginning to see a steady stream of product announcements this morning. One of the early darlings of the event is Samsung’s new Family Hub refrigerator that sports a notable 21.5-inch 1080p display. While full details have yet to be released here in the United States, we’ve got our hands on as much information that is available at this time. Head below for more.

Samsung has made a push into the smart home arena following the acquisition and subsequent re-release of the SmartThings brand. While Samsung is no stranger to the world of kitchen appliances, this new Family Hub refrigerator tops the list of show-stopping designs. The large 21.5-inch display is obviously the standout attribute here. It provides access to a handful of features including your calendar, weather and refrigeration settings. The system also tracks food that has been purchased and make note of the expiration dates, alarming users of when the “D-Day” is nearing for an individual grocery item.

As an Internet of Things device, the new Family Hub allows users to monitor the refrigerator as needed from smartphones or tablets. There is a built-in camera that provides a live look-in on your food, so you can eye that bowl of leftover guacamole if needed. Samsung has also built in sensitive humidity and temperature sensors that can play a key role in keeping food fresh for an extended period of time. If something were to go awry, the system will provide a push notification to users.

Other standout features include a stereo speaker system and a hefty recipe book. While details are somewhat thin on the North American release at this time, the Korean model is expected to notify users of the nearest location to purchase an item that has gone out of stock. Although an Amazon Dash button might be able to fill-in as a suitable replacement. At this time, it’s unclear of when or how much the Family Hub will cost in the United States. We’ll update this post throughout CES as more information comes available.
