3Doodler has enjoyed massive success with its crowdfunding projects, raising over $1.5 million last time around. The second generation improved on the original with a slimmer design and stronger build. From the start, it always seemed like 3Doodler’s destiny to create a kid-friendly version of its pen. Now, it’s coming to fruition.
The new 3Doodler Start is clearly focused on a younger user with its colorful design. Looking further, the latest rendition offers a safe way for kids to experiment with 3D printing. Head below for more plus pre-order details.
Much like the adult-focused models, the new 3Doodler continues the simplistic approach to creation and design with plastic strands serving as “ink” and your hand/brain working as the “software”. Operation is very straightforward, which is key for a children’s product, as the filament is easily replaceable and controlled.
Despite its familiar function, 3Doodler has adjusted the price accordingly to fit the market. The new Start will come in at $50 (or $40 for pre-orders), which is half the price of the second generation model. Because of its looks and being situated as a child’s product, there was seemingly little choice but to drop the price.
Additional features include a low-temperature filament that melts much cooler than traditional options. Because of this, the Start operates without any hot pieces and skips the need for resins or glue to hold projects together. The wireless design also allows for greater freedom in a classroom or other learning environment.
The good news is that its pricing makes the product much more enticing to parents and schools. Those two groups are most certainly the ones to convince when it comes to the potential of this product. 3Doodler knows that there is a massive untapped market for this project as STEM toys continue to grow in popularity in America.
3Doodler’s Essentials Pack is available for pre-order today with a Start Pen, two-packs of filament, a microUSB charging cable and a project idea book. Additional kits are available with more supplies and accessories.
