It should lead us to improve our knowledge of ultrafine particles, in particular by identifying the main sources and the spatial distribution. 1- Importance of Particle Size: Particle size significantly affects health impacts, with ultrafine particles (PM0.1) being particularly concerning due to their ability to penetrate deep into the lungs and potentially enter the bloodstream. 2- Sources of UFPs : While wood combustion is not a primary source in the Middle East, other significant sources include maritime traffic (especially in large ports), road traffic (in dense urban areas), and industrial sites. Identifying these sources is crucial for effective mitigation strategies. 3- Monitoring Methods Effective monitoring requires more than just measuring Particle Mass. It involves: - Establishing particle size distribution. - Counting the number of particles, especially for UFPs. - Using specialized instruments like Condensation Particle Counters (CPCs) for point counts of fine and ultrafine particles. - Utilizing Black Carbon (BC) analyzers to measure the specific component associated with combustion sources. 4- Monitoring Technologies Enviro & Industrial Solutions ME has already integrated & installed successfully through its reputable suppliers: - Point Mass measurement: Beta Attenuation Monitors, Nephelometers - Spatial Mass measurement: Open Path LIDAR - Point Counts measurement for Fine and Ultra Fine Particles (UFP) : Condensation Particles Counter (CPC) - Black Carbon (BC) analyser 5- Contributions to Public Health By monitoring and quantifying these invisible particles, EIS ME contribute significantly to understanding air quality, supporting governmental decisions (Public Health & Environmental Protection), and ultimately benefiting communities by enabling informed policy and mitigation actions. #ultrafineparticles #particleshealthimpact
