Another highlight is the first ever ROLEX “Rainbow” Daytona from the 1990s which sold for 6.28 million USD, making it the second most expensive Rolex ever auctioned. The list also includes an Oval pocket watch by Derek Pratt for Urban Jürgensen and multiple iconic Patek Philippe 2499 references. In the Top 10 Brands Analysis, Rolex led in appearances, while Urban Jürgensen and Philippe Dufour achieved the highest average sales price with a perfect 100% sale rate. F.P. Journe saw remarkable growth, with a 108% increase in total sales and a 116.7% rise in average price. Most brands, including Audemars Piguet and Montres Breguet, recorded higher average prices. Set to take place tomorrow, this single-owner evening sale at Sotheby’s New York offers a glimpse into Tom Brady’s life beyond football, showcasing watches worn by him at championship celebrations and public appearances. Among the highlights is the ROLEX Daytona 6241 (est. $600K–$900K USD), known as the "John Player Special." This exceptionally rare variant of the “Paul Newman” Daytona features a 14k yellow gold case and matching Jubilee bracelet, a rarity compared to the more common 18k versions. With only 300 yellow gold reference 6241 Daytonas ever produced, and even fewer with the John Player Special dial, this watch, offered to the public for the first time, is a true centerpiece of Brady’s collection. Also featured is the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 26730BC (est. $400K–$800K USD), in 18K white gold with a unique salmon tapisserie evolutive dial. The viewing for Christie's Important Watches has officially begun, with the auction scheduled for 9th December, in New York. Leading the lineup is the world’s thinnest mechanical watch, the Richard Mille Ferrari RM UP-01 TI (est. $1M–$2M USD). A true centerpiece of the sale, this timepiece is the result of a partnership between Richard Mille and Ferrari. Limited to just 150 pieces, its rarity and desirability amongst Richard Mille collectors is virtually unmatched. Another highlight is the RM 018 WG (est. $800K–$1.5M USD), a limited edition of 30 white gold pieces and the first Richard Mille wristwatch fitted with a movement made from sapphire crystal plates. Collectors can also expect the 1986 London-made Cartier Crash (est. $400K–$800K USD) on display. EveryWatch's Auction Season November 2024: Geneva Edition report is now live, offering insights from one of the year’s most awaited auction seasons. The total auction sales reached US$114.19 million, up 26.74% from last year, with an impressive 85.6% sell-through rate. This season also saw 19 watches sell for over US$1 million, a 72.7% jump from 2023. Patek Philippe led with 8 of these, including 6 from its iconic Perpetual Calendar Chronograph lineup, while F.P.Journe - Invenit et Fecit and ROLEX each contributed 3. This season revealed a major shift in collector preferences, with vintage, neo-vintage, and independent brands outperforming modern watches. Neo-vintage pieces, in particular, saw a 150.64% surge in average prices, while modern watches experienced a notable slowdown, highlighting the market’s move toward rarity and heritage. The viewing for Phillips The New York Watch Auction: XI is now open! Taking place December 7–8, 2024, this auction event features 180 extraordinary lots in New York. Among the standout pieces is the Philippe Dufour Grande & Petite Sonnerie, estimated at $2M USD. Only eight of these models were ever made. This particular piece, No. 07, is the only open-dial example ever made, with a sapphire crystal dial, hinged caseback, and early case architecture, making it absolutely unique. No other open dial Grande et Petite Sonnerie wristwatch has ever appeared on the market. Collectors will also be drawn by the Patek Philippe World Time Minute Repeater 5531R-015, estimated at $800K–$1.6M USD. This is the first-ever minute repeater to chime the local time. Recently discontinued and replaced by a white-gold version, this pink gold Ref. 5531R-015 is one of only ten examples ever made, featuring a breathtaking cloisonné enamel map of Geneva. Equally impressive is the F.P.Journe - Invenit et Fecit Grande Sonnerie (est. $800K–$1.6M USD), featuring a possibly unique ruthenium dial, never before seen by the public. The viewing for Sotheby's Important Watches: Featuring has started! This auction is set to take place on December 6th, 2024, featuring 252 exceptional lots in New York. Leading the collection is the ROLEX Daytona 6238, estimated at $500K–$1.5M USD. Produced in limited numbers, black-dialed versions like this one are especially rare and highly coveted by collectors. This reference gained fame when it appeared on George Lazenby’s wrist in the 1969 James Bond film. The auction also features the Patek Philippe Minute Repeater Perpetual Calendar Chronograph 5208P, estimated at $700K–$1.1M USD. Crafted in platinum until 2018 (after which it was offered only in pink gold), this Grand Complication is among the most desirable and rarest of its kind, with only a few examples ever returning to public markets.
