In recent years, Saudi Arabia has achieved the fastest rise in female employment that any country has ever seen. Targets set for Vision 2030 have already been surpassed. In this month’s Themes from FIM, we suggest this has played a significant role in rising per capita GDP and examine how it fits with the 40%+ upside in per capita GDP forecast in academic literature. We suggest it will add $8,000 to Saudi per capita GDP in the next 5 years, will lift overall GDP by 10-20% over the long-term, and help Saudi Arabia’s per capita GDP converge towards levels seen in France.
