On 2 December, Ambassador Ramūnas Davidonis and H. E. Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Duailej, President of the General Civil Aviation Authority of Saudi Arabia, signed an air services agreement between the Governments of Lithuania and Saudi Arabia. ✈️ The Agreement will enable development of bilateral cooperation in the sector of air transport and will establish conditions for the operation of air services. The agreement will also open opportunities for closer cooperation between the Lithuanian and Saudi aviation sectors and businesses. 💬 During the meeting with the General Civil Aviation Authority, Ambassador R. Davidonis welcomed the opportunities that the agreement will create for Lithuanian business, growing trade relations between the two countries and the opening of the way for direct flights in the future. Today Ambassador Ramūnas Davidonis is visiting Riyadh, capital of Saudi Arabia. During an insightful discussion was held with Director of the Northern European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Saudi Arabia H.E. Nesreen AlSaawi bilateral and regional developments. With the Secretary General of Federation of Saudi Chambers Mr Walid Hamad Al-Arain Ambassador reiterated the interest of Lithuanian business to explore opportunities with partners from Saudi Arabia, also discussed bilateral trade an prospects for exchanging business delegations in the nearest future. Lithuania is making exciting progress in bioeconomy innovation! Researchers of the Kaunas University of Technology have developed a new way to use cellulose, the primary natural material in plants, to create nanofiber cellulose matrices. This discovery could replace traditional plastics in industries and even be used in medicine.   It's an important discovery, because: 🔹 Recycled cellulose polymer can be an alternative to plastics in toys, household items, etc. 🔹 Plant-based cellulose is safe, natural, and great at keeping moisture—perfect for medical uses like tissue repair. 🔹 These new cellulose models mimic how cells behave in the body, helping scientists run better experiments and learn more about how cells grow and interact. On 19-22 November, Ambassador Ramūnas Davidonis visited Kurdistan Province, Iraq, where he discussed bilateral cooperation and opportunities for Lithuanian businesses with the Kurdish institutions and partners. In a meeting with Dr Dara Rashid Mahmud, Minister of Planning of Kurdistan, Ambassador Davidonis discussed Lithuanian business development opportunities, possible cooperation in technological solutions, and opportunities for trade delegation visits from both countries. Ambassador Davidonis also met with Safeen Ghafour, Adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister of Kurdistan, to discuss bilateral cooperation opportunities, Lithuanian business interests in the province, as well as progress and first results of the "Digital Explorers Iraq Edition", project by the Lithuanian think tank OSMOS. This project promotes digital transformation of the region and provides an opportunity to develop IT talent and learn from Lithuania's best practices. In a meeting with Radu Butum, Head of the European Union (EU) Office in Erbil, the Ambassador discussed bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the EU and Kurdistan, the involvement of Member States and the potential for Lithuanian exports and business to Iraq. #Lithuania is leading the Baltics with 22nd place in the 2024 Global Digital Competitiveness Ranking published by IMD, leading the Baltics.   According to the newest ranking, Lithuania climbed 6 positions, securing 22nd place out of 67 evaluated countries. Lithuania is scoring particularly well in the "readiness for the future" category, ranking 17th.   Lithuania's rapid digitalization and significant improvements across all categories demonstrate its readiness for future challenges. Its strong business resilience and adaptability are key strengths that set it apart from other Baltic states, showcasing its unique economic and digital leadership.
