OGH Legal local counsel in first debt equity swap of its size in the UAE OGH Legal is proud to announce the conclusion of the first debt equity swap of its size in the region (circa AED 4 billion), as part of a contentious restructuring process of JBF RAK LLC, and involved litigations in both RAK and Dubai Courts. Led by Founding Partner Mohamed ElGhatit, OGH Legal was local counsel representing major stake holders including Davidson Kempner, as well as the major creditors holding claims of more than AED 3.2 billion. "We are delighted to have brought this matter to a positive resolution and achieved our clients objectives after 18 months of hard work before the local UAE Courts. Being the first of its kind in this size, the matter will pave the way for others. Its humbling to be [alongside our international law firm co-counsels, and advisors] trailblazers. On October 23, 2024, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, issued an Emiri Decree establishing the Judicial Department in the Emirate of Sharjah. This department will oversee all courts and judicial services, operating with financial and administrative independence, and will report directly to the Judicial Council. The decree outlines the transfer of federal judicial staff, assets, and responsibilities to the new Sharjah Judicial Department, ensuring the continuation of judicial processes during the transition period.
