Dr Gehad El Ghazali (Consultant Physician/ Head of Laboratory at PureLab) and Dr Ayeda Karami Salem Al Mahri (Associate Head of Laboratory at PureLab) led the organ transplant track, highlighting the critical role of the calculated panel reactive antibody (CPRA) in improving organ allocation for highly sensitised patients. Why CPRA matters: - CPRA is a crucial tool in organ transplantation, helping to assess sensitisation status and prioritise highly sensitised patients for organ allocation (kidney/pancreas). - The UAE’s ethnically diverse population of over 200 nationalities requires a population-specific CPRA calculator. - PureLab’s Centre of Innovation for Transplant Immunology has developed the UAE’s first CPRA model to enhance transplant accessibility and success rates. - Implementing the CPRA algorithm based on HLA frequencies of the UAE’s multi-ethnic population will optimise organ allocation and improve transplant outcomes. - Dr Gehad also presented a framework for other countries to develop their own customised CPRA models.
