Together with our colleagues internationally, and as initiated by The Mosaic Rooms we will all remain closed this Friday, 31st of May. As art galleries in Dubai, we stand in unwavering solidarity with the people of Palestine and their right to self determination. We cannot stand by in silence. The violence on the Palestinians in Gaza is unconscionable, inhumane, and illegal. As cultural spaces we ask you to consider the shared values of justice, equality, life and peace which we all cherish and have an equal right to. Enough is Enough! The online viewing room for Vian Sora's solo exhibition 'House of Pearls' is now live on The Third Line website. The exhibition is on view through 6th December 2024 📍The Third Line, Alserkal Avenue “In her studio, she pours herself into her art, using the act of painting as a grounding process. Her large-scale works feature complex layers of paint that she skillfully negotiates. Initially, she pours, spills, and sprays paint onto a flat canvas, allowing the materials to flow intuitively in a moment of free expression. Once the paint dries, she stands the canvas upright, reflecting on the chaotic layers before building upon them. Drawing inspiration from ancient Mesopotamian mural-making techniques, she creates a rich tapestry of color and texture, with small shapes emerging to evoke a dream-like quality, reminiscent of watching clouds shift—each glance revealing new interpretations open to the viewer's imagination.” Tap the link below to explore and to read the accompanying essay by Wassan Al-Khudairi for the exhibition. On the occasion of the talk Sophie Kazan’s book ‘The Development of An Art History in the UAE’ published by Anthem Press, will be available The Third Line Shop. Farah Al Qasimi’s new commission ‘Homesickness’ (2024) on view at the first edition of the Public Art Abu Dhabi Biennial. On view until 30 April 2025 📍Corniche, Abu Dhabi, UAE ‘Public Matter’ Public Art Abu Dhabi Biennial “I wanted to make a choir of singing pearls for the Corniche (the place where I first discovered public art), and one that reflected the luminous building materials of downtown Abu Dhabi. Each oyster is milled from aluminium and contains a speaker embedded in a pearl; each pearl emits separate tracks of a spatial composition. The main three-note theme is taken from the song “Tob, Tob Ya Bahar”, originally sung by the wives of pearl divers praying for their safe return.” - Farah Al Qasimi Images 1-4: Farah Al Qasimi, Homesickness, 2024, Aluminium, speakers. Farah Al Qasimi’s new commission 'Homesickness' (2024) now on view, part of the first edition of the Public Art Abu Dhabi Biennial. 15 November 2024 - 30 April 2025 📍 Corniche, Abu Dhabi, UAE ‘Public Matter' Public Art Abu Dhabi Biennial ‘Homesickness' (2024) presents a physical and auditory sculpture that honours the rich tradition of pearl diving that has influenced the economic and cultural landscape of the Emirates. Five large oysters in a circular formation each conceal speakers that emit a chorus of synthetic voices for which the artist has made a composition based on a chant sung by the wives of pearl divers (‘Tob, Tob Ya Bahar’). The placement on the Abu Dhabi Corniche holds personal and cultural significance, reflecting Al Qasimi’s experiences with local public art. The iridescent paint and colour-changing LED lights bring contemporary technology to the traditional subject, engaging with the ocean’s historic significance. The Biennial presents a diverse range of installations and performances by more than 70 UAE-based and international artists, each bringing their unique perspective under the theme ‘Public Matter’. Located in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, the Biennial aims to bridge the city’s past and present, featuring public art that engages the community and enhances walkability. As part of the Biennial’s Public Programme, Al Qasimi will also participate in a talk. ‘Sunday Talks: Sculpture as Civic Art’ Sunday, 17 November 📍Barzakh (Wael Al Awar’s Pavilion), Abu Dhabi Corniche 6:30 - 7:00pm Moderator: Alia Lootah Speakers: Athar Jaber, Farah Al Qasimi, Zeinab Alhashemi For more information, tap on the link below. https://lnkd.in/dkbbcMT6 ______ #PublicArtAD #AbuDhabiCulture #InAbuDhabi #PublicArtBiennial #PublicArtAbuDhabi #FarahAlQasimi
