Oman achieve a copper milestone after a 30 year break! 🇴🇲 Oman has resumed their copper exports after 3 decades with a milestone shipment of 900 tonnes of copper concentrates from the Lasail mine in #Sohar! Developed by Minerals Development Oman SAOC "MDO", the mine is set to produce high-quality copper concentrates with a purity of 18% to 22% and an annual output of 500,000 tonnes of copper ore. MDO's CEO Mattar Al badi highlighted the significance of the shipment, linking it to Oman’s 3,000-year copper mining heritage and emphasising its role in economic diversification. The company is also planning to start production at the Al-Baydha mine in #Liwa by 2025-2026, with combined copper reserves of 2.78 million tonnes across the two mines. Saudi Arabia embraces mining to secure a post-oil future ⚒️ 🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia, historically synonymous with oil, is steering its economy toward a diversified future under Saudi Vision 2030. Introduced in 2016, Saudi Vision 2030 seeks to reduce the nation’s dependence on hydrocarbons by bolstering sectors like tourism, technology, and mining. With the global demand for energy transition minerals such as #lithium, #cobalt, and #nickel rising, the kingdom aims to quadruple its mining sector's GDP contribution to $75 billion by 2035. Recent government efforts, including investment deals worth $9.3 billion and collaborations with nations like Egypt and Russia, highlight its ambition to establish itself as a key player in global mining. The Saudi government is leveraging its $2.5 trillion mineral wealth, spanning resources like #gold, rare earth elements, and #copper, to attract international investment. The newly launched Saudi Minerals Programme underscores this goal by reducing exploration risks and fostering partnerships with junior miners. Mining production has steadily increased, with gold output alone projected to grow by 6% annually until 2027. These advancements, coupled with support from entities like the Saudi Geological Survey, position the nation as a prime destination for investors.
