#Nangarhar is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the eastern part of the country. It is one of the most populous provinces of Afghanistan, with most population living below a poverty line. Food security in Nangarhar has been a significant concern due to various factors such as conflict, poor agricultural production, natural disasters and the recent influx of Afghan returnees from Pakistan. Since 2013, Future Generations Afghanistan has partnered with the World Food Programme to implement emergency projects in east region of the country. These projects aim to address immediate food needs and support the livelihoods of the most vulnerable families. Cash assistance provides families with the flexibility to meet their most pressing needs, whether it's food, healthcare, or other essentials. This approach empowers households to make their own choices, which can lead to more sustainable and dignified solutions. #wfp #Nangarhar #FGA #humanitarian #communityempowerment #FoodSecurity #assistance

In 2024, Future Generations Afghanistan supported 1,876 laborers through Cash For Work projects in Nuristan province. These laborers contributed to the development of vital local structures within their communities while also supporting their families with the cash they received in return for their work. Cash for Work projects provide immediate income to laborers, giving them the ability to support their families and meet daily needs. This is especially vital in rural areas where employment opportunities can be scarce. The cash earned through these projects helps to stimulate the local economy as workers spend their earnings on local goods and services. These projects typically involve building or repairing essential infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and irrigation systems. The improvement in local infrastructure boosts the overall quality of life in the community, ensuring better access to education, healthcare, and markets. In times of crisis, such as natural disasters or economic downturns, Cash for Work projects offer a safety net. They provide immediate financial relief and help communities rebuild and recover more quickly. #FGA #communityempowerment #nonprofit #humanitarian #FoodSecurity

In July 2023, Future Generations Afghanistan implemented the Resilience and Food Systems (RFS) project in eastern Afghanistan. This initiative, driven by a compelling vision to uplift local communities, aimed to enhance food security and foster resilience among vulnerable households. Through a blend of strategic interventions including cash for work activities, vocational trainings, and small agriculture market support, the RFS project set out to create tangible, lasting impacts. Cash for work activities, often described as food for asset programs, were designed to provide immediate financial relief to households in need, empowering them to participate in the construction of infrastructures for their communities while at the same time provided them with cash to support their basic family needs. Vocational training programs opened up new avenues for skill development, enabling community members to explore diverse income-generating opportunities. The individuals received training on artificial flower making, literacy education and carpet weaving. Concurrently, the small agriculture market support (SAMS) aimed at bolstering local economies and ensuring sustainable agriculture production. The end of this project in December 2024 marked a significant milestone. Over the course of a year-and-half-long endeavor, an impressive 29,157 households directly benefited from the array of initiatives. Additionally, thousands of households will benefit from the infrastructures built/constructed in their communities. These communities now stand more resilient, equipped with the resources and knowledge to navigate future challenges with greater confidence. #FGA #communityempowerment #Agriculture #FoodSecurity #humanitarian #nonprofit #wfp #sams #Nangarhar #Laghman

Future Generations Afghanistan recently distributed certified wheat seeds and fertilizers to 5,000 farmers across all districts of #Kunar province to boost agricultural productivity. These certified seeds will help farmers increase their yields, contribute to the local economy, and enhance the province's overall agricultural production. Many farmers cannot afford to buy certified wheat seeds on their own, making this assistance crucial for these farming communities #communityempowerment #localeconomy #agriculture #Afghanistan #Kunar #FAO FAO

Future Generations Afghanistan is currently implementing the Resilience and Food Systems (RFS) project in Laghman and Nangarhar provinces, focusing on building essential infrastructures, creating employment opportunities for local communities, and supporting vulnerable smallholder farmers. As part of this project, a gabion protection wall has been constructed in Mehterlam district of Laghman province to safeguard hundreds of acres of agricultural land and homes against flooding. The construction of this protection wall has also provided employment for 144 local laborers, with each laborer receiving 6,400 AFN per month for six months. Additionally, 80 acres of land that had been rendered unusable due to flood damage will be restored and made suitable for agricultural use. #CommunityEmpowerment #FoodSecurity #FGA #humanitarian #nonprofit #wfp #Agriculture #Nangarhar #Laghman #sams Future Generations Afghanistan has recently completed the construction of a protection wall in Metheralam District of Laghman province to

Line cultivation is an agricultural practice that involves planting crops in straight, orderly rows. This method offers several benefits for both farmers and the environment. By implementing new methods of cultivations, farmers are able to benefit from: 1. Efficient Use of Space: Planting in rows maximizes the use of available land, allowing for more crops to be grown per unit area. 2. Ease of Management: Straight rows make it easier to perform agricultural tasks such as weeding, fertilizing, and harvesting. Mechanized equipment can also be used more efficiently. 3. Improved Air Circulation: Proper spacing in rows ensures better air circulation around the plants, which can reduce the risk of diseases and pests. 4. Water Management: Row planting facilitates better water management through irrigation channels, ensuring that plants receive adequate moisture without wastage. 5. Soil Conservation: Line cultivation helps in reducing soil erosion. The rows can be oriented to follow the natural contours of the land, reducing runoff and preserving topsoil. #FoodSecurity #Afghanistan #humanitarian #FGA #CommunityEmpowerment #FAO #FAO_106_USA #USIAD #nonprofit

In 2024, approximately 69,000 trenches will be excavated in four districts of Logar province. These trenches will play a significant role in combating drought conditions, as these trenches will help collect and store water, acting as vital reservoirs that provide water resources during times of drought. This stored water will support agricultural activities and maintain vegetation, reducing the negative effects of drought in this province. Additionally, trenches can regulate water flow and reduce the risk of floods, further contributing to the province's resilience in the face of drought conditions. #CommunityEmpowerment #sustainabledevelopment #FGA #FAO #OSROAFG140WBK #Logar

Hing, also known as asafoetida, is a resinous sap derived from the roots of various Ferula plants. It is commonly used as a spice and flavoring agent in various cuisines/dishes and has several health benefits. Recent studies have shown that hing has antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, making it valuable for consumption. To promote the cultivation of hing in Afghanistan, FGA is distributing hing cultivation packages to more than 50 farmers in Logar province. #USIAD #EconomicEmpowerment #FoodSecurity #FGA #sustainabledevelopment #Afghanistan #FAO #CommunityEmpowerment #ingo
