VLOG: Mohammad Omid Amiri, Health and Nutrition Program Manager Save the Children has just delivered its third shipment of medicine this year to Afghanistan. As the harsh winter approaches, respiratory infections rise among children under five, which is largely due to severe weather conditions and air pollution. This critical shipment will help prevent and treat common illnesses such as respiratory infections, acute watery diarrhea, and skin diseases. With thousands of children and families in need, these supplies will provide life-saving care and support during the challenging months ahead. Save the Children remains unwavering in its commitment to protecting Afghan children and vulnerable communities, ensuring they receive the care they need to survive and thrive. Non-profit Organizations
Save the Children has been supporting children and families in Afghanistan since 1976.
در باره ما
Save the Children in Afghanistan is working, more than ever, to fulfill its promise to transform the lives of children and families, especially the most vulnerable and marginalized. Since 1976, we have been providing Education, Health and Nutrition, Child Protection, Child Poverty, and Emergency Response support to Afghan children and their families. The past several years have been extremely challenging for the people of Afghanistan. Already suffering from decades of conflict and instability, families are experiencing extreme hunger, repeated disease outbreaks, and the devastating impacts of climate change and drought on a scale the country has never seen before. In 2023, Afghanistan is experiencing one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world. We face new challenges as we look forward to serving even more children. We advocate for positive change in the policies and practices that impact children’s lives to ensure they can survive, learn, and be protected. We work to fulfill Afghan children’s rights and make their voices heard locally, nationally, and globally.

In the first half of 2024, extreme weather forced at least 38,000 people—half of whom are children—to leave their homes in Afghanistan, becoming internally displaced. This figure has already surpassed the total for all of 2023. Despite contributing minimally to global carbon emissions, Afghanistan remains highly vulnerable to climate impacts, with disasters such as droughts, extreme weather events, floods, storms, and landslides severely affecting Afghan communities. Arshad Malik , Country Director Save the Children in Afghanistan, said: “The climate crisis is fuelling the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. It is forcing people from their homes, destroying water sources, and preventing children from going to school. It is changing children’s lives. Compared to 60-year-olds, newborns in Afghanistan will confront 5.3 times more drought in their lifetimes.” #SaveTomorrow #ClimateCrisis #COP29 #ClimateChange #Afghanistan

VLOG: Charity Lukaya, Humanitarian Director Save the Children in Afghanistan: As Afghanistan prepares for a #severe winter, communities already facing the aftermath of flooding and ongoing food insecurity are bracing for even more hardships. Save the Children has launched an anticipatory action and emergency scale-up plan to support approximately 18,000 households across nine provinces. The plan focuses on providing support in health and nutrition, education, child protection, mental health & psychosocial support, and cash assistance to help families with heating costs and other urgent needs. Save the Children winterization plan faces a $4.2 million funding gap, with the Inter-Cluster Coordination Team ICCT winterization support plan estimating $1 billion is needed across aid organizations to address winterization requirements nationwide – Including the needs of more than 700,000 children at risk. #ClimateCrisis #AnticipatoryAction #ClimateChange #Afghanistan
