The Olive Ridley sea turtle is one of the smallest sea turtle species, weighing an average of 100 pounds. 🌿✨ As we wrap up another week, we’re excited to reflect on a collaboration we've had with the Caricom Youth Ambassadors for Antigua and Barbuda on the Wetlands and Coastline Assessment and Management Project (WAMP)🌍 This initiative, focused on educating students about the importance of wetlands and the need for their conservation, was a true success💪🌱 As part of our World Migratory Bird Day celebrations🦅, students from six secondary schools had the opportunity to visit local mangroves and participate in birding activities🔍 We journeyed to Darkwood Mangrove with Jennings Secondary and St. Mary's Secondary, Parham Mangrove with Sir Novelle Richards Academy and Pares Secondary, and McKinnons Salt Pond with Antigua Girls' High School and Antigua Grammar School. A heartfelt thank you to Esquire Henry and the entire team for their passion, dedication, and partnership. Not all of our stories are happy ones😞 Last Thursday, we received a call from a concerned person who spotted a sea turtle in distress😰🌊🐢 Despite our best efforts to reach the turtle in time, we arrived too late. Tragically, it was found entangled in a gill net and showed signs of a boat strike on its shell🥅🚤 These heartbreaking situations remind us of the ongoing threats sea turtles face every day🐢❤️🩹 Please, if you spot a sea turtle in distress, report it immediately to the EAG or AB Sea Turtle Awareness, and if you’re out on the water, be extra cautious and vigilant to protect these incredible creatures. Every action counts in the fight to save them. 🐢💔 Thank you once again Hodges Bay Resort & Spa Ltd and staff for providing us with a boat ride and assistance.
