Few hours ago, the United States vetoed a #UN Security Council draft resolution calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in #Gaza.
Despite securing 14 votes in favor, the resolution failed to pass due to the #US veto, as it is one of the five permanent members with veto power.
The resolution also demanded the immediate release of all hostages held in Gaza and called for the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid.
The U.S. representative, Ambassador Robert Wood, stated that the U.S. could not support an unconditional ceasefire unless it was linked to the release of hostages held by Hamas and other militant groups in Gaza.
As the voting session drew to a close, the hand of the U.S. representative rose, a decisive moment that sealed the fate of the resolution.
With it, the course of action was set, and the path forward was marked by the weight of political will, leaving the hopes for an immediate #ceasefire in Gaza dashed, at least for now.
As the french say : The draft resolution is "Tuée dans l'œuf".
