Apple seeds first developer betas of iOS 18.3, macOS 15.3

Fresh from its latest operating system releases, Apple has moved on to a new generation of developer betas, providing the first builds of iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, macOS 15.3, tvOS 18.3, watchOS 11.3, and visionOS 2.3.

Apple released iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, macOS 15.2, tvOS 18.2, watchOS 11.2, and visionOS 2.2 on December 11, bringing an end to the last cycle of beta testing. Now, Apple has moved on to a fresh new batch.

The first iOS 18.3 and iPadOS 18.3 developer betas share build number 22D5034e, with macOS Sequoia 15.3 using build number 24D5034. The first tvOS 18.3 build is 22K5534e, the first watchOS 11.3 build is 22S5534d, and the first visionOS 2.3 build is 22N5875e.

While the full breadth of Apple's changes in this beta generation isn't known, we can be sure that there are more Apple Intelligence changes inbound.

The official notes for the build mentions a fix for Genmoji when a personalized image may not generate unless a different person is selected first. There's also a fix for the Writing Tools API, used by third-party apps.

The iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2 releases introduced new Apple Intelligence features like Image Playground and Genmoji, as well as tweaks to Writing Tools. It also expanded the availability of Apple Intelligence into more English-speaking markets.

AppleInsider and Apple strongly advise that users do not install test operating systems or other beta or RC software onto "mission-critical" or primary hardware, due to the small chance of issues that could result in the loss of data. Testers should therefore use secondary or non-essential devices and make sure they have sufficient backups of any critical data.

Since this is probably the last occasion Apple will introduce betas in 2024, testers may also think twice about trying out the new build. A second round could end up waiting until early January.
