App is OK

First of all you HAVE to start a free trial before even using the app I wanted to try it out and I couldn’t until I got the free trial and I felt forced into something I didn’t really like. I’m not complaining about the subscription prices as they are very fair it’s just having to start a free trial before I can actual see what the app is like. However I got the free trial as I thought then that way I could cancel anytime. Which I want to cancel it because I can’t even use a 3rd party apple pen because I can’t afford and Apple Pencil.

I would very much like to give the devs a 5 star review but I can’t unless these changes can happen:

You should get one animation before you ask us purchase full version or free trial.
Needs to work with a 3rd party Apple Pencil.
And add a small tutorial because with out it the app can be daunting and it’s not super easy to teach your self how to use it

I give it 3/5 stars until ideas have had some thought into it

Can’t import audio? Plus bugs and annoying process (updated)

the app is really nice but, doesn’t import audio files!
how animators can animate something like a dialog with this app???

Then, I’m a pose to pose animator, so I always look for creating “in between” and it’s very annoying to have to double click, drag a selection on 2 frames then move the pen to cross the menu in order to create a new blank frame between 2 frames.

I’d love to have the possibility to move the timeline TOP SCREEN, as if I’m using my iPad on sofa or bed, it’s difficult for the neck, for the hand holding the iPad Pro (as isn’t light weight) so see and access to the timeline

I’d love to have the play button on the side, to press it with the other hand, very uncomfortable to have it on top.
And the 4 fingers shortcut often goes in conflict with the iPad function (switching between apps), so doesn’t help really.

To flip the anim, I’d love to have a floating icon, alone to place where I need in order to access to the flipping page function.
(Actually if you press with 2 fingers on screen, it appears but very close to other dangerous icons)

Bug I found:
When you’re selecting with the lasso, then you press on the icon to transform the selection, if you accidentally change frame, this tool will move your drawing on another frame and you can’t undo this action! So you get 2 drawings on the same frame and the original one empty. I wasted much time to understand that and to redraw things.

The audio import will come in future versions, we know that it is an important tool to have.
We are currently working on fixing the bug you noticed.
Also we may add interface customization options in the future.

Industry Capable Animation Software

I’m genuinely confused by a lot of the other reviews. I’m a professional animator, i use TVPaint as a main software for work, something that costs over £1000, and callipeg definitely holds its own alongside that software, almost like a travel version, and having every capability to get started on a new project or continue working through one while on the road.

If you’re interested in frame by frame drawn 2D animation, you are fully capable of creating industry quality animations in this software from start to finish. Take a bit of time to learn the software, it’s worth it and becomes incredibly intuitive to use.
