It’s a striking phenomenon, and the obvious question is: Did the CPG market change forever to host a big number of smaller players - or will the big companies regain dominance in the industry? We believe this will all depend on the following: 1. Who controls the digital channel. This goes beyond B2C; it includes a route-to-market B2B strategy. As one of the most disruptive shifts in the industry, companies are responding in three ways: i. Developing a DTC (direct-to-consumer) strategy, favored by smaller players ii. Developing proprietary digital channels (initiatives such as BEES or Gro247) iii. Partnering with a expert third-party provider (such as nilo) 2. Who captures the technological edge.
