📢 AI for Forestry: Smarter, Safer, Autonomous 🌲 Manual tasks like inventory, logging, and measurement are time-consuming and often hazardous. Automation can help—but reliable training data for AI models in forestry has been missing. Our AIT Austrian Institute of Technology experts Julia Simon Daniel Steininger Andreas Trondl Markus Murschitz from the AIT Center for Vision, Automation & Control (#VAC), have developed an innovative image dataset in the #TimberVision project, enabling precise detection and measurement of tree trunks. Im Projekt #GAIN, das im Herbst 2024 gestartet wurde, geht es um die Entwicklung und Erforschung eines gender- und diversitätssensiblen Antidiskriminierungs- und Empowerment-Trainings in #VR für Rettungsdienstpersonal. Neben dem #AIT Center for Technology Experience (Leitung & Koordination) sind Johanniter Research & Innovation Centre und USECON The Usability Consultants GmbH als Partner beteiligt. Notfallsituationen sind nicht nur medizinisch herausfordernd – oft müssen Sanitäter:innen auch mit #Diskriminierung, #Aggression oder Anfeindungen von Schaulustigen, Angehörigen oder anderen involvierten Personen umgehen. #Rettungskräfte sollen durch #VR #Training besser vorbereitet werden, um künftig für solche Situation besser gerüstet zu sein und gleichzeitig die Hilfeleistung effizient durchführen zu können. Virtual Reality bietet durch immersive und multi-sensorische Möglichkeiten in der Simulation effiziente Lernoptionen zur optimalen Vorbereitung. Expert:innen aus #Gender- und Diversitätssensibler #Forschung, #Rettungsdienst und #Digitalisierung setzen im Projekt GAIN neue Maßstäbe in der Ausbildung. Aktuell arbeitet das GAIN-Projektteam unter der Leitung von Julia Himmelsbach (AIT) an der Identifikation der Problemfelder - Eine Tagebuchstudie und eine länger angelegte Online-Studie werden Inputs liefern, womit Sanitäter:innen im Arbeitsalltag konfrontiert sind. Das wird die Basis für die späteren VR Szenarien und die Trainingsstrategie bieten. Im Projekt beteiligt sind u.a. Diotima Bertel Anke Schneider Birgit Harthum Christian Spath, MBA Daniela Weismeier-Sammer Sarah Kainz & Clemens Liehr. Mehr Verkehrssicherheit durch datenbasierte Maßnahmen - Die Presse im Gespräch mit AIT-Forscherin Isabela Erdelean 90 Prozent der Verkehrstoten in Europa verunglücken auf untergeordneten Straßen – ein Problem, das das europäische CAMBER Project adressiert. Das AIT Austrian Institute of Technology bringt dabei seine Expertise in der Datenerhebung ein. „Mit dem Hochleistungsmessfahrzeug RoadLab sowie einem speziell entwickelten Mess-Motorrad können wir Straßenbedingungen und Verkehrsflüsse in Echtzeit erfassen und analysieren“, erklärt Isabela Erdelean, Expertin für Infrastruktur-Technologie am AIT. 🚀 Exciting News! The NEEDS Repowered Project Has Officially Launched! We’re thrilled to announce the successful Kick-Off of the NEEDS Repowered project, funded under the Driving Urban Transitions (DUT) Partnership within the Positive Energy Districts (PED) Pathway! 🌍⚡ On February 12, 2025, 15 partners from across Europe came together for an engaging e-Kick-Off meeting, setting the stage for a collaborative journey toward more resilient, energy-positive districts. 🔍 What is NEEDS Repowered? Led by the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, the project aims to integrate technological innovation, policy-driven approaches, and social engagement to: ✅ Retrofit buildings for greater energy efficiency ✅ Foster sustainable energy behaviors ✅ Develop innovative business and financing models 💡 What’s Next? 📅 Our first in-person consortium meeting will take place on April 14-15, 2025, in Innsbruck, Austria, featuring pilot site presentations, good practice examples and stakeholder engagement approaches for PEDs. 🌍 Over the next three years, we’ll focus on regulatory frameworks, energy vulnerabilities, and PED implementation strategies to tackle Europe’s energy crisis head-on. Gestern Mittwoch waren wir beim Kick-off von #SHEgoesDigital im Headquarter von Microsoft Österreich mit dabei – mit Impulsen von First Lady & SHEgoesDigital Initiatorin Doris Schmidauer Hermann Erlach und Doris Lippert von #Microsoft mit aktuellen #AI Usecases und Vorstellung des Programms durch Ingrid Heschl und Valerie Michaelis. SHEgoesDIGITAL geht heuer in die 3. Runde. Das Erfolgsprogramm für Chancengerechtigkeit im Bereich der IT & Digitalisierung wurde von <idc> Initiative Digitalisierung Chancengerechtigkeit initiiert und findet in Kooperation mit Microsoft, dem Skills Campus und dem ETC Enterprise Training Center statt. Diese und viele weitere Fragen standen im Mittelpunkt der gemeinsamen Veranstaltung von Urban Land Institute Germany/Austria/Switzerland mit Birgit Kraml, #AIT Austrian Institute of Technology mit Theresa Fink und Digital Findet Stadt mit Steffen Robbi im Co-Creation Lab in der aspern Seestadt powered by Wien 3420 AG 👉Highlights der Veranstaltung: 🔹 Daniela Allmeier (Raumposition. GmbH) eröffnete mit einem Impulsvortrag zu Bottom-up-Prozessen in der Stadtplanung. Ihr Fazit: Erfolgreiche Bürger:innen-Beteiligung braucht Spaß, Offenheit und klare Kommunikation. 🔹 Dr. Haris Piplas (Drees & Sommer) gab Einblicke in das New European Bauhaus als Treiber für nachhaltige, lebenswerte Quartiere – mit KI-gestützten Datenbanken als Schlüssel zur intelligenten Stadtplanung. Es wurde diskutiert, wie Unternehmen sich aktiv einbringen können und welche KI-gestützten Datenbanken bei der Quartiersplanung unterstützen. 🔹 @Paul Rakosa (ÖVW Österreichisches Volkswohnungswerk Gem. Gesellschaft m.b.H.) & Martin Aufhauser (stadtland) stellten das Projekt „Das Seestädter“ vor – die ko-kreativ Entwicklung eines Baufeldes in der #Seestadt mit Fokus auf Community-Building, innovative Mobilität, Gewerbeflächen und Kreislaufwirtschaft, Verpackungslösungen und Hausgemeinschaften. https://lnkd.in/dyTqbSC8 🔹 Live-Demo mit Elena Stefanich (AIT Austrian Institute of Technology): Spielerisch wurden Straßenzüge mit Bäumen, Bänken und Grünflächen gestaltet – mit Echtzeit-Simulation der Auswirkungen. Anhand des Projektes #TuneOurBlock zeigte sie die Agendagruppe Lichtental wissenschaftlich begleitet wurde, um partizipative Methoden für die Planung eines Supergrätzls Lichtental im Wiener 9. Bezirk zu testen. Das #AIT hat dabei insbesondere digital unterstützte und hybride Planungsmethoden getestet, um so Bürger:innen die Auswirkungen von verschiedenen Planungsszenarios auf Verkehr und Aufenthaltsqualität zu verdeutlichen. 👉Den Abschluss bildete eine interaktive Diskussionsrunde über die Zukunft der Stadtplanung – mit wertvollen Impulsen für nachhaltige, smarte und partizipative Stadtentwicklung. 👉Fazit: Co-kreative Stadtplanung braucht Zusammenarbeit, Innovation und Mut zur Veränderung! #gemeinsamStädtegestalten #CoCreation #Stadtplanung #NewEuropeanBauhaus #Zukunftsquartiere #Innovation
