As a member of the Business Coalition for a Global Plastics Treaty, we urge governments to make a choice. A treaty based on voluntary measures alone will not end plastic pollution and will only exacerbate the fragmented regulatory environment that business is facing. Rule 3: Bypassing Safety Controls ⚠️ Safety critical elements (SCEs) such as flame detection systems, pressure sensors, and emergency shutdown systems prevent major accidents. Servicing SCEs requires bypassing safety controls, which should only be done under specific circumstances and must always be authorized. It is crucial that the safety procedures in such situations are followed carefully and only for specified and limited time periods. #BorealisSafety #LifeSavingRules

We are delighted to announce the installation of Norsepower Rotor Sails™ on Oceanus Aurora, a Very Large Gas Carrier chartered by Borealis. This milestone was achieved in cooperation with wind propulsion leader Norsepower and the esteemed shipping company Iino Kaiun Kaisha Ltd Kaisha, Ltd. (IINO Lines), the installation has been completed at the beginning of November in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The Norsepower Rotor Sails are expected to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by approximately 4%, minimizing the environmental footprint of our transportation activities between Houston (USA) and Stenungsund (Sweden) or Porvoo (Finland). This is another significant step towards achieving our ambitious emission reduction targets. Learn more and read the full story ➡ https://lnkd.in/djw7mrjG #KeepDiscovering

We are proud to have recently joined the International Sustainability Reception at Buckingham Palace, hosted by His Majesty The King. This prestigious event, organized by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI), and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation (EMF), brought together global leaders to discuss and drive high collective ambition on climate and plastic reduction. In the run-up to the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, and the fifth round of Plastic Pollution Treaty negotiations (INC-5) in Busan, South Korea, this event was a crucial platform for exchanging views on the challenges our planet faces and exploring potential solutions through cross-industry and cross-country collaboration. At Borealis, we are committed to driving a circular economy and tackling plastic waste. Since 2018, we have been signatories of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Global Commitment and early supporters of the Business Coalition for a Global Plastics Treaty. Our investments in recycling platforms aim to manage the end-of-life of products effectively. Additionally, our co-founded initiative, Project STOP in Indonesia, launched in 2017 with Systemiq, is making significant strides in creating sustainable waste management systems to prevent ocean plastic leakage. #KeepDiscovering

The Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Global Commitment Report 2024 is here, and it paints a mixed picture. While signatories have made significant strides, the world is off track to eliminate plastic waste and pollution. One thing is clear: a binding global policy is essential alongside voluntary action. At Borealis, we’re proud to have been a signatory since 2018, working to advance circularity across the plastics lifecycle and supporting waste collection in areas, including through Project STOP in Indonesia. Read Craig Arnold, EVP at Borealis, in his blog to see what the report has to say about the progress so far and the challenges that remain ➡ https://lnkd.in/dMm-geuk #CircularEconomy #EMF #PlasticsTreaty #AcceleratingActionOnCircularity

Rule 2: Energy Isolation ⚡ Before any work begins, it’s crucial to ensure that all energy sources are completely isolated. This is a life-saving measure to prevent unexpected energy releases. The LOTOTO (Lock-out, Tag-out, Try-out) procedure protects everyone from accidental re-energization and potential injuries. This process involves properly shutting down equipment, locking it out with special devices, tagging it for clear identification and double-checking for any residual energy. #BorealisSafety #LifeSavingRules
