LWG - Triple gold for BOXMARK At the end of November, all three fully integrated leather production facilities - BOXMARK Argentina, BOXMARK Feldbach plant and BOXMARK Jennersdorf plant - were audited by the Leather Working Group (LWG) and certified with “Gold”. Nature is the basis of our existence. However, it is limited. The basic prerequisite for sustainable production is therefore that we only use nature within this scope. However, in order to deserve the term “sustainable”, leather must also be produced in a way that conserves resources. On the one hand, the Gold certification is confirmation of our trendsetting, ecological and energy-efficient overall concept. On the other hand, we see it as a mandate to continue to view our business activities not only from a technical or economic perspective, but also to always keep an eye on the socio-ecological aspect.

Today I’m excited to share a special milestone in our long-standing trustful relationship with the Vatican: our new electric G-Class has officially taken up duty as the first all-electric Mercedes-Benz Popemobile! Every G-Class is special – but this one stands above them all. It’s handcrafted, with unique bodywork and has lots of special features to make travelling more comfortable. There’s only one main rear seat, which rotates so the Pope can greet crowds whilst on his travels. And this electric G’s drivetrain has been modified to work perfectly at very slow speeds. Next to us, just across the street, is the waste disposal and processing company Saubermacher. The company's business model is based on the fact that people produce waste. But nobody would think of claiming that Saubermacher is partly responsible for this. Everyone understands that the demand to close waste treatment companies so that less waste is produced would be absurd. It's the same with leather. Cattle are not bred to produce leather, but because people want to eat beef and drink milk. Without leather manufacturers, not one cow would be slaughtered less. Because, just like waste processing companies, leather manufacturers are a consequence and not a cause.
