🔍 Feature Spotlight: Solidification Model for Particle Growth 🔍 We’re excited to introduce a new solidification model in our latest CFDEM®coupling 6.4.0 release! This model allows particles to grow as liquid solidifies on colder particles, capturing critical interactions between temperature and phase change. 🌡️ Showcase: In this example, hot liquid is poured over cold particles. As the liquid cools and reaches the particles, it solidifies, causing particle growth. When particles reach melting temperature, they gradually melt over time. This process is modeled with a closed mass and energy balance to ensure accuracy and conservation. This new feature is ideal for industries focused on thermal processes, coating, and phase change applications. Follow along as we continue to explore CFDEM®coupling 6.4.0 features, and feel free to reach out with questions or visit https://lnkd.in/dHWwUYZh to learn more! #CFDEM #Aspherix #Innovation #particlesimulation #simulationsoftware #CFDEMcoupling #solidification #thermalprocess #coating #massenergybalance #CFD #DEM #coupledsimulations #discreteelementmethod #release

🔍 Feature Spotlight: VoF-IBM Contact Angle Model with cfdemSolverInterIB 🔍 In our latest CFDEM®coupling 6.4.0 release, we’ve enhanced VoF-IBM (Volume of Fluid-Immersed Boundary Method) by adding a contact angle model at immersed boundary (IB) surfaces! This new feature makes it possible to simulate realistic liquid-solid interactions, allowing users to model precise contact angles at particle surfaces. Combined with our cfdemSolverInterIB, this addition significantly improves accuracy in scenarios where fluid-particle interactions drive particle movement. 🌊 Showcase: We’re excited to demonstrate the impact of this feature in a drainage simulation of water through a packed bed of spheres. Here, particles respond to changing buoyancy forces, moving realistically as the water drains, illustrating the value of accurate fluid-particle interaction modeling. 📢 Publication News 📢 We are proud to let you know, that our colleague Martin Niemann and our Co-Founder Christoph Goniva together with Giandomenico Lupo, Wojciech Szmyt, Xiao Jia and Vladyslav Turlo, Ph.D. just recently published a new paper with the title: "Modeling of laser beam absorption on rough surfaces, powder beds and sparse powder layers". https://lnkd.in/dybaBk3E Our novel numerical model simulates laser absorption on rough solid surfaces by integrating photon interaction laws, such as specular reflection and polarization effects, into the Aspherix DEM framework. Validated through applications to rough surfaces and powder beds, the model offers enhanced accuracy and a new correlation for reflectivity in sparse layers, paving the way for future advancements in laser additive manufacturing simulations. 🎉 We congratulate both members of DCS as well as the other co-authors for their publication. #Laser #DEM #rough #surface #powder #ray #tracing #reflectivity
