🔍 The guarantees of origin (GoOs) were in focus during the last panel of the day. The Energy Community Secretariat’s Naida Hausmann introduced the status of the Energy Community system for the GoOs. The panel debated the regional dynamics, challenges and lessons learnt. 🪟GoOs play a crucial role in transparency and supporting long-term commitments through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). By certifying that the energy traded is genuinely renewable provides buyers with assurance that the energy meets sustainability criteria, helping them meet their environmental targets while building trust with investors. The Energy Community Secretariat supports Contracting Parties in setting up GoO systems to enhance confidence in the market and align with the EU. However, further work remains to establish mandatory disclosure rules in the CPs and lift EU restrictions on GoOs from third countries to fully unlock their potential. 📢 Maximising Renewable Energy with PPAs – the first panel of the day moderated by our Adam Cwetsch has just ended. It brought key insights into the transformative potential of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for achieving 2030 RES targets, highlighting legislative barriers, market dynamics, and cross-border opportunities. Key highlights: 💡Small markets in the region need cross-border PPAs for scale, but integration remains a challenge. 💡Very few Contracting Parties are ready to trade renewables with the EU, limiting regional cohesion. 💡In teh long-term, guarantees of Origin (GoOs) must be fully tradable within the EU to attract large corporate buyers and drive investments.
