Our Eurocluster project focused on a system that prevents hazardous situations on construction sites and provides emergency processes in case of accidents. Summarised, different use cases that rely on location-awareness were implemented and evaluated successfully on real world construction sites. ✅ Location-aware on-body light and vibration control: active 360° visibility only when needed (see and be seen when leaving the vehicle cabin) + vibration patterns activated automatically when accessing restricted areas. ✅ Location-aware wireless control: specific devices like remote controls shall only switch to an operational mode when nearby workers are located in safe areas. ✅ Fainting detection: measurement of unusual movement patterns and transmission of emergency signals containing locational information. Our system consists of wearable units for workers and plug and play components for highlighting nearby environment as safe or dangerous. It can be utilised indoor and outdoor and is even operable in absence of the mobile network. Enhancing safety on construction sites with smart wearable technology is essential! We are developing a distributed system split into two parts, which puts the workers at the centre of communication:  💡 Flasher: A smart wearble. It consists of different motion-sensors, actuators (light, vibration), and wireless communication channels for direct communication to wearers and their surroundings.  💡 Smart Beacon: Wireless plug & play communication unit that can be used to mark safe or dangerous zones with a dimension between a few decimeters and several dozen meters, e.g. tipping loader, vehicle cabin, standalone workplaces, etc. It can directly communicate and control machines over wired and wireless interfaces. Thanks to our location aware features we can automatically adapt the functionality of our devices based on the position of workers and also transfer surrounding machines into safe working states. A few concrete examples:  👷♀️ A tipping loader, controllable via a remote control, shall only be operable when an employee is in a safe zone.  👷 Our wearable’s 360° visibility features are turned on automatically when a safe area is left, e.g. vehicle cabin for enhanced visibility only when required. The difficulty is to find the optimal combination between detection precision, communication range, battery life as well as response times. First test iterations together with our project partner Kofler&Rech revealed promising real-life results in construction areas: accurcy in a range between several decimeters, response times below one second, and battery life of several months with our basic settings. Das Jahr 2023 neigt sich dem Ende zu, und wir wollen diesen Moment nutzen, um auf eines unserer spannenden B2B-Projekte zurückzublicken. Unsere Kooperation mit der AUVA - Allgemeine Unfallversicherungsanstalt: Gemeinsam mit der AUVA haben wir ein innovatives Projekt in ganz Österreich umgesetzt. Es zielte darauf ab, die Sicherheit der AUVA-Mitarbeiterinnen zu erhöhen. Mitarbeiterinnen der AUVA die täglich zu Fuß oder mit Mikromobilen unterwegs sind, erhielten ein Flasher Set zur Erhöhung der eigenen Sicherheit und Sichtbarkeit auf Dienst- und Arbeitswegen. Wir sind stolz darauf, mit solchen bedeutenden Institutionen wie der AUVA zusammenzuarbeiten und gemeinsam einen Beitrag zur Sicherheit am Arbeitsplatz zu leisten. We need to reduce accidents on construction sites and company premises! Most employers and employees are not aware of the risks and challenges that workers on construction sites face every day; poor visibility, lack of communication, and exposure to various hazards when working with machines lead to accidents, injuries, and fatalities. These tragedies affect the employees, and even the employers are impacted by the high costs that result from these accidents. That’s why we are truly excited to be part of the Silicon Europe Eurocluster project and to contribute to the safety of workers in the production and construction industry with our Danger Detect and Fatality Avoidance (DDFA) system (Silicon Europe, European Cluster Collaboration Platform (ECCP), European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA)). We provide an easy to install (plug and play) software-hardware solution that consists of wearable devices for workers and smart beacons for their surroundings. Our system unlocks the power of relative distance detection between workers and dangerous or safe zones that can be marked dynamically. Our solution is able to process and evaluate positional information, indoor and outdoor. Based on the location of workers in their surrounding, our DDFA system automatically controls 360° optic and haptic warning capabilities in-built within the wearables as well as adapts functionality and safe states of nearby machines for worker safety with our smart beacons. By using advanced sensory and wireless technologies we are implementing an easy to install, reliable and efficient system that prevents accidents, saves lives, and reduces costs.
