IUFRO - International Union of Forest Research Organizations hat dies direkt geteilt
Why is international scientific networking valuable? More specifically, why is IUFRO - International Union of Forest Research Organizations relevant for international research on forests? These were questions addressed yesterday at a workshop at The Australian National University with Australian researchers and stakeholders dealing with forests from different disciplinary perspectives. Jonathan Adams in his 2012 paper in the Nature Magazine emphasized straight forward benefits resulting from international collaboration. Amongst those better access to resources, including funding, facilities and ideas as well as greater chances to respond to grand challenges were mentioned. For the latter an impact beyond the scientific community is needed. Participants at the workshop highlighted that collaboration in IUFRO facilitates to make impact. Offering sound scientific knowledge about the many aspects relevant when it comes to forests is a strength of IUFRO. Possibly today more needed than ever before! Thanks to all participants for the constructive workshop and thanks to Peter Kanowski for organizing it. The word cloud shows which benefits of IUFRO were perceived by the participants.
