Info
Karamba3D is an interactive, parametric engineering tool that allows you to perform quick and accurate Finite Element Analysis (FEA). It has been specially tailored to the needs of design professionals in the early design phases. Karamba3D is embedded in the parametric environment of Grasshopper in the 3d modelling program Rhino3D. This makes it easy to combine parameterized geometric models, Finite Element calculations and optimization algorithms like Galapagos, Octopus, Wallacei and many more. Karamba3D can also be used as a standalone .NET library for integrating Finite Element functionality into your scripts.

I collaborated with Wenjun Wei last semester on our integrated studio project - NEXUS. This is a transportation hub that integrates a ferry terminal and an eVTOL vertiport. With the three distinct branches of our design, the surroundings are defined into different zones according to their programs. We were also able to create a structure-free waiting space that offers unobstructed views of the bay by conducting structural analysis utilizing Karamba3D. Thank you Karamba3D for featuring our project on Instagram. Teammate: Wenjun Wei Studio Instructor: Simon Schleicher

Want to learn about structural optimisation? Check out this workshop hosted by LCA Forum, where we will do a deep dive into optimisation procedures! #structuralengineering #structuraloptimisation #parametricengineering #engineering #optimisation #parametric #karamba3d
Did you know structure represents over 50% of the initial embodied carbon in an office building? There are many ways that the structural engineer can seek to reduce this. The most cost effective way, is optimisation. This is where Karamba3D comes in. We organised a workshop to guide you through the basics of optimisation of structures using Karamba3D! 📑 Topic: Structural Optimisation of Steel Structures with Karamba3D 📅 Date: Feb 27, 2025 🕕 Time: 16:00 - 18:00 GMT ⚒️ Software: Rhinoceros 3D, Grasshopper 3D, Karamba3D 🧑🏼🎓 Total Seats: 50 seats 🛒 30% Early Bird Discount 🔗 Eventbrite: https://lnkd.in/eEjkB_JG Workshop Description We will first dive into Cross Section Optimisation tool to design steel profiles for a simple structure and look at how the different settings can affect the optimisation procedure. Then we will use Galapagos for a single-objective optimisation to increase the efficiency of the structure. Lastly, a multi-objective optimisation procedure will be set up to optimise the shape, structural performance and material quantities of the building. This workshop will provide a thorough understanding to set up your own structural optimisation procedures in your own work! Participants will receive a free, 3-months trial license to Karamba3D, and access to the workshop recording, and downloadable example files. Karamba3D 3.1.4 will be used for the workshop. This workshop will be led by Matthew Tam (Karamba3D & Bollinger+Grohmann and participants will receive access to workshop recording and example files.

Our upcoming workshop on January 17th deals with the implementation of a preliminary #LCA in your #Karamba3D models to carry out carbon footprint optimizations. Together with the #AIAssistants plug-in, we will also cover how to quickly generate different design options from scratch using AI to compare their carbon footprints. We will work with the upcoming version of the AI Assistants plug-in for Rhino. Besides the existing possibility of controlling Grasshopper scripts with the ChatGPT interface in #Rhino, you can now also use #ChatGPT to define #Python functions from scratch that can be later called with AI to generate and edit Rhino geometry. This approach will be used in the workshop to define different design options starting from very basic architectural geometry. The workshop will be lead by Matthew Tam and Diego Apellániz 🎟️ 🚀 Register here: https://lnkd.in/eDjM2Bfx 🎟️ 🚀
Please note this is NOT happening on LinkedIn Live. Please register for the workshop on Eventbrite at https://lnkd.in/e5SUT_FB

🔍 Debugging Karamba3D Models: Connected Parts & EigenModes In this video, we explore two powerful tools for verifying structural connectivity and stability in Karamba3D: Connected Parts and EigenModes. The Connected Parts component identifies connectivity between lines and meshes, ensuring the structural elements are properly linked. Meanwhile, the EigenModes component calculates the eigenvalues of the structure, providing insights into its stability and highlighting any improperly connected elements. 🛠️ Detect and address both geometric and force-based disconnections in your structural models. #Karamba3D #StructuralEngineering #ParametricDesign #ComputationalDesign #ParametricEngineering
