Im von der TU Wien koordinierten EU-Projekt OntoTrans H2020 haben Forschende eine Anwendung konzipiert, die zur Entwicklung besserer Materialien beiträgt. Semantische Technologien spielen dabei eine zentrale Rolle. „Die Industrie benötigt Computer, um Zusammenhänge zwischen einer Vielzahl von Objekten herzustellen, von Chemikalien und Materialien bis hin zu ihrer Verarbeitung und den Eigenschaften der Produkte“, erklärt Projektkoordinatorin Nadja Adamovic. Im Rahmen von OntoTrans wurde eine gemeinsame „Sprache“ entwickelt, die es ermöglicht, Daten zu beschreiben, zu kommunizieren und wiederzuverwenden. Diese semantischen Technologien erleichtern die Kommunikation zwischen verschiedenen Datensystemen und beschleunigen den Prozess der Materialauswahl und -entwicklung.
