At today’s #CitizenScience seminar at @boku.vienna, Lukas Landler shared interesting information, as well as insights and results from the #AmphiBiom project.
Amphibians belong to the most endangered species, even more than, e.g., coral reefs or sharks. Habitat loss and fragmentation of habitat are key threats. But did you know that small, shallow ponds can help stabilize or grow green toad populations? To increase such habitat/pond structures is one aim of #AmphiBiom, a #CitizenScience project that distributed 300 ponds to Citizen Scientists in Austria. With the valuable help of citizens, #AmphiBiom provides new habitat on the one hand, and researches on amphibian populations on the other.
Sightings (including photos and audio-recordings) of amphibians are uploaded to the #AmphiApp, which is running on the @SPOTTERON Platform. It was great to see, most Citizen Scientists enjoy the AmphiApp and participating in the AmphiBiom project. Thanks to AmphiBiom for the great opportunity to learn about the progress of the project!
