⚡ Towards a Just Transition: Women in Energy and Climate #Gender #equality in climate decision-making often remains overlooked, undermining effective climate action. Despite frameworks like the Paris Agreement emphasizing the importance of gender-responsive transitions to low-carbon economies, women’s participation in climate negotiations is still limited. Women, particularly in developing countries, play crucial roles in managing natural resources and building climate resilience. Yet, their involvement in sustainable energy planning is minimal, impeding progress towards inclusive growth. At #COP29, several events at the UNIDO Pavilion on Gender Day – November 21st – will explore these critical themes and showcase best practices for a sustainable and inclusive energy future. Join the #GenderEnergyCompact and our partners at #COP29 for engaging sessions on: 🌟 Session 1: The power of finance: Women’s Leadership for a just energy transition 🌟Session 2: Women Leading the Change: Advocacy for a Just Energy Transition 🌟Session 3: Empowering Young Women: Innovative Energy Solutions for our Future Generation 👉 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eZ5DXy5h *The Gender and Energy Compact co-coveners: ENERGIA - International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy, GWNET: Global Women's Network for the Energy Transition, UNIDO and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) #GenderEquality #ClimateFinance #WomenEmpowerment #COP29 Hivos

📢 Report Release: Global Commission on People-Centred Clean Energy Transitions: Designing for Fairness The International Energy Agency (IEA) Global Commission on People-Centred Clean Energy Transitions has released a report on "Designing for Fairness", which examines how clean energy policies can be formulated to promote greater affordability, equitable distribution of benefits and costs, and enhanced equity within energy systems. At the forefront of this initiative is The Gender and Energy Compact, co-convened by ENERGIA - International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy, which submitted crucial insights on advancing gender equality across these themes. The newly released document on the IEA website features the Compact's proactive work, which has acted as a catalyst in reinforcing efforts toward #GenderEquality and #Women’sEmpowerment in the energy sector. The next phase of the Commission’s work will focus on designing an implementation roadmap in collaboration with all members leading up to #COP30. *Co-convenors of The Gender and Energy Compact are: ENERGIA - International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy, UNIDO, GWNET: Global Women's Network for the Energy Transition and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) 📎 Report Access: https://lnkd.in/dPqWaciq

Exciting progress on #genderequality and sustainable #energy at the ENERGYNOW SDG7 Action Forum in New York! The Gender and Energy Compact session, “Post-2030 Vision: Prioritizing Gender Indicators for a Just and Inclusive Energy Transition for All,” brought together key stakeholders to discuss the crucial intersection of gender data and the energy transition. Key insights from our esteemed panelists: ☀️ Papa Seck (UN Women) shared that current data availability on gender-specific indicators stands at 56%. While this is a step forward, it highlights the need for continued efforts in this area. ☀️ Fanny Missfeldt-Ringius from ESMAP - Energy Sector Management Assistance Program illuminated the potential of geospatial open-source data to enhance women's energy access, showcasing innovative solutions that can drive change. ☀️ Elizabeth Cecelski from ENERGIA presented an "Accountability Framework for a Gender-Just Energy Transition," highlighting the need for indicators across themes such as energy poverty, employment, entrepreneurship, and enabling environments. She called for partnerships to collect data, political support for these indicators, and annual progress communication to address gender gaps in the energy sector. ☀️ Kristian Holmberg from Sida reported that an impressive 70% of their projects now carry a gender tag, demonstrating a commitment to integrating gender considerations into development initiatives. ☀️ Katie Tobin from Women's Environment & Development Organization emphasized the importance of building on existing frameworks like the Beijing Platform for Action to ensure that our strategies are robust and inclusive. ☀️ Irene Giner-Reichl from GWNET: Global Women's Network for the Energy Transition made a compelling case for including 100% of human talent in the energy transition, particularly advocating for scaling women's participation to address workforce gaps. This is essential as we face a skilled labor shortage in the energy sector. As we look ahead, it’s critical that we expand our definition of gender data to incorporate insights from local women’s organizations and increase both priority and funding for gender-environmental data. Energy transition strategies must be gender-responsive, and engaging youth as key allies will be vital to our success. With less than six years remaining until 2030, it’s imperative that we advocate for gender indicators in the post-2030 Sustainable Development Goals agenda. The lack of specific gender indicators for #SDG7 undermines evidence-based decision-making and investment plans, which are essential for ensuring an inclusive energy transition.
