Design Guidelines for Privacy and Ethics - Your input is highly valued! With our work, like many great projects in XR and beyond, we are at the forefront of technological innovation. And, there are always considerations along the technological progress. How can we ensure that e.g., the XR technologies we bring into the workflow don't lead to surveillance, inequality, performance judgment, or other risks like overreliance on XR features? In THEIA-XR, these considerations play a central role. As one of the project results, we have developed Design Guidelines for Privacy and Ethics - and are still improving these. This is, where we are asking our network to support us in providing feedback to our guidelines. If you have experience with ethics/privacy issues in XR/AR/VR/MR, or if you've worked in the Off-Highway machinery domain (like with excavators, snow groomers, reachstackers, #agriculture, #forestry, etc.), or both, please fill out our questionnaire: https://lnkd.in/esEykjgf Your input will help us improving the guidelines, make them more actionable and understand what is missing. Thank you very much for your support! And if you are looking for more information or want to get in touch with our experts, don't hesitate to contact Anastasia Sergeeva from University of Luxembourg. #ethics #privacy #extendedreality #offhighway #heavyduty #horizoneu

Making the invisible visible for off-highway machinery by conveying Extended Reality technologies
Info
THEIA-XR is a European funded project that aims at improving human-machine interaction in mobile machinery by enhancing user technology fit and extending reality technologies and functionalities. The results will make the invisible visible respectively the non-perceivable perceivable to the human operator, extending the perceivable range of the operator without negatively influencing the performance of the human while controlling the machinery. THEIA-XR will leverage a human-centred transdisciplinary and scenario-based co-design methodology with users, stakeholders and multidisciplinary researchers as a fully integrated project team. The THEIA-XR approach for improving the human operator tasks by deploying extended reality technologies will be initially validated and tested in three uses cases in the off-highway domain, targeting snow grooming, logistics and construction scenarios, integrating real end-users, public/non-users and real-life data from dedicated industrial environments. This project has received funding from Horizon Europe, the EU’s key funding programme for research and innovation, under grant agreement No 101092861. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the European Commission. Today was an extremely interesting day in Brussels, being at the EU XR Projects Meeting, organized by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Communication Networks, Content and Technology. Being involved in group discussions focusing on strengths and weaknesses in European XR research projects and sharing ideas for future research. Additionally, I was given the opportunity to present the THEIA-XR project to other #H2020 and #HorizonEurope XR projects, and exchange ideas and potential cooperation. It was amazing to see so many European funded projects together and share ideas and results with all of them. A big thanks to DIDYMOS-XR Project, SUNxr.he, Sharespace.EU, CORTEX2, TRANSMIXR, XReco, MAX-R, EMIL, OPENVERSE, Popular, XTREME, Presence, Heat, INDUX-R, XR2Industry, XR5.0 Project, MotivateXR, Spirit, Master, XR2Learn, XR4ED, AdMiRe, ARETE, eTryOn Project, HoviTron, PrismArch, VR2Care. #ExtendedReality #HorizonEurope #Research

👀 UX Design Award Nomination 👀 Congrats to the team of Technische Universität Dresden Industrial Design Engineering | td for the nomination to the UX Design Award for the light feedback system as part of the #construction use case. The light feedback system enables #operators to access advanced digital assistance information directly through peripheral visual perception while focusing on the tool outside the cabin. This provides improved awareness and reduces dependencies on display-based interfaces that are often perceived as too complex and difficult to understand. The product enables more intuitive and easy-to-use access to digital data to improve user experience, acceptance, and use of digital #innovations. You can support us by giving your vote to the colleagues until February 25 (link in comments)! #XR #innovation #horizoneu UX Design Awards Sebastian Lorenz Richard Morgenstern Tim Breitbarth Volker Waurich #heavyduty #offhighway https://lnkd.in/d5qcERFd

Dear all! I wanted to share a couple of photos from the Stereopsia in Brussels last week. In short, it was an incredible experience with lots of cool projects that were super relevant to my work. A big thank you to the amazing organizers, to Alexandra GERARD and the entire Stereopsia team for the warm welcome! Thanks also to all the presenters and colleagues from other projects for the great conversations, idea exchanges, and prototype testing! Special shoutout to the folks working on privacy and ethics in XR from the XRSI Europe and XR4Human Project projects Valentino Megale, PhD 🥽, Luis Bravo Martins, Alina Kadlubsky, Rigmor Baraas You are awesome, and I look forward to collaborating on our topics of ethical, privacy-preserving and secure XR! Last but not least - thanks to my amazing colleagues from THEIA-XR: Martijn Rooker, Kaj Helin and Andrea Alesani for being there and making these days full of humour and teamwork :) So, what did I do there? In THEIA-XR, we are working on XR solutions for the Off-highway machinery domain. Operating off-highway vehicles is an extremely difficult job: operators often deal with limited visibility and rapidly changing weather. The machines are heavy, dangerous and expensive, so mistakes can have serious consequences. We're working to improve the quality of work in this field by providing operators with more information through real-time XR features like laser-guided lines, haptic feedback, obstacle detection, and trespassers/bystander recognition. We're also exploring the limits of teleoperation for some of these vehicles, which could improve efficiency. However, there's always another side to the technological progress. How can we ensure that the XR technologies we bring into the workflow don't lead to more surveillance, inequality, performance judgment, or other risks like overreliance on XR features? One of the things we are doing in THEIA-XR is creating Design Guidelines for privacy and ethics, which should help projects like ours consider these important questions. We've been working with partners, stakeholders, developers, and end-users and analyzing existing guidelines on ethics and privacy in XR/VR/AR/Metaverse to find the most relevant ones for our domain. We've already have a preliminary version of the Guidelines, but I believe there's still much room for improvement. So, I NEED YOUR HELP :) In Stereopsia, I already started distributing the flyers for our feedback form, but I think it would be more efficient to post my link here! If you have experience with ethics/privacy issues in XR/AR/VR/MR, or if you've worked in the Off-Highway machinery domain (like with excavators, snow groomers, reach stackers, agriculture, forestry, etc.), or both, please fill out our questionnaire: https://lnkd.in/esEykjgf Your input will help us improve the Guidelines, make them more actionable and understand what is missing. Thank you so much!
