📢🛰🌌 UNOOSA & Exolaunch are offering the opportunity to deploy up to two 1U-3U CubeSats with Exolaunch’s EXOpod deployment system. Don't miss out on your opportunity to kick-start your countries' space ecosystem and economy. 💻 🌟 Lucky awardees will not only develop and deploy their satellites, but they'll receive targeted support from the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) on registration, space sustainability, and engagement with national policymakers. The application deadline to apply is 31 December 2024. 🇺🇳 Director of UNOOSA Aarti Holla-Maini said: "UNOOSA has directly supported four countries in launching their first satellites. Payload hosting and deployment opportunities, such as this, serve as catalysts for the establishment of national space ecosystems, the creation of space agencies, the registration of space objects, creation of indigenous satellites, and new national laws. We’re grateful for Exolaunch’s valuable contribution to UNOOSA’s Access to Space for All initiative and are confident that this will help countries on their space-faring journey.” See the project page here: https://lnkd.in/d6BqAtjb For more information, see the recent press release on the joint project: https://lnkd.in/dD_zD4G2 #UNOOSA #Space4ALL #Space4SDGs #Exolaunch #EXOpod

Director, UN Office for Outer Space Affairs

While the United Nations is a historical and natural user of satellite communications services, when it comes to NTN, QoS to guarantee minimum bandwidth is a prime consideration, alongside cost - for mission-critical applications, such as peacekeeping, food security, processing refugee influx, conflict zones, disaster response, etc. For leisure use after hours however, the lower latency & higher bandwidth offered by NTNs is great for guesthouses & staff welfare, where in tough conditions, mental health is crucial. Still NTNs remain costly. The game changer and shift away from expensive legacy C-Band systems will come IF NTNs can guarantee QoS with SLAs and reduce costs moving away from a roaming model. Beyond personal communications, mobile networks lack the coverage, resilience & affordability (due to roaming) to be effective and reliable solutions in the field. Personal note: after all the hard work as GSOA in 3GPP, it’s great to see the evolution of NTNs. Looking forward to keeping UN agencies informed as the tech develops. Thanks to وكالة الفضاء السعودية | Saudi Space Agency, International Telecommunication Union and Forum Europe for hosting this event. #space4life #innovation #connectingfromtheskies

  • 🌌🚀 The 2024 UN Conference on Space Law and Policy just concluded! National space laws create a predictable regulatory environment that promotes investment and underpins space ecosystems. Space law also demonstrates nations' commitment to the safe and sustainable use of space.   Over three days, participants from across the globe came together in Vienna to address how international cooperation and legal frameworks can meet the challenges of an evolving space landscape.   Key outcomes and insights from the conference:   📜 Strengthening National Frameworks: Participants emphasized the critical need to translate international principles, like those in the Outer Space Treaty, into robust national legislation to foster legal clarity and empower space industries.   🤝 Multilateral Solutions: Recognizing the growing complexity of space activities, discussions underscored the importance of international cooperation on issues like space traffic management, debris mitigation, and resource utilization.   🛠️ Building Capacity: UNOOSA highlighted tools like the ASTRO database and Space Law e-learning modules, which are helping emerging spacefaring nations craft policies aligned with international law. See these tools here: https://lnkd.in/dx93YMmh   As the space sector expands, #UNOOSA, through its dedicated Global Space Law Project, remains committed to continuing our technical advisory missions to nations, through which we engage: experts to finesse draft laws, governments on the benefits of space, and policy-makers on the benefits of predictable regulation! Stay tuned for news on a Toolkit on Space Law, Regulation and Policy that will only further these global efforts 🌍✨   #SpaceLaw #COPUOS #SpacePolicy #SpaceSustainability

  • 🌍✨ Three days into #COP29, UNOOSA has been championing the role of space technology in tackling the climate crisis. Through high-level panels and roundtable discussions, we’re bringing space-based solutions into the spotlight to support global climate resilience and adaptation efforts.   📊 From Earth Observation data to satellite imagery, space offers invaluable resources to monitor environmental changes and inform climate action. This data is critical, especially for countries most vulnerable to climate impacts, such as Small Island Developing States. By providing accurate and timely insights, space technology empowers nations to adapt to shifting weather patterns, manage natural resources more effectively, and protect their communities from the devastating effects of climate change and natural disasters.   🤝 During a high-level roundtable hosted by the UN Environment Management Group (EMG), we emphasized the importance of making space data more affordable and accessible. Our team shared concrete proposals on how to strengthen inter-agency collaboration within the UN to streamline data-sharing efforts. Together with the EMG and other UN entities, we’re working to make sure all countries have the tools they need to combat environmental challenges.   As we look ahead to more discussions at #COP29, UNOOSA remains committed to expanding space’s role in climate solutions, mobilizing support, and driving partnerships that make a tangible difference for our planet. 🌌🌱   #Space4Climate #EarthObservation #ClimateAction #COPUOS
