Reflecting on Resilience and Innovation: The Birth of WUMA 🌟 WUMA had existed for a while under a different name, but its current avatar was only a recent change. In 2020, COVID-19 hit the world, changing everything for students of MSc Marketing - WU Vienna. Cancelled events, virtual lectures and group project meetings became the norm for a while. In the face of this uncertainty, students back then took on a mission: Bringing their peers together to form a community. This vision led to the rebranding of the student's club, and WUMA in its current form was born. The foundational pillars of WUMA's brand navigate our club‘s development: 1️⃣ Stability 2️⃣ Belonging 3️⃣ Academic and Professional Success The design chosen for the new logo was a testament to these principles. Our alumnus Stephan Flattinger got inspired from reinventing the club and giving it a modern appearance. After several iterations, he arrived at today‘s logo design. As we look back, we are proud of what we have built together. WUMA is a testament to our student’s ability to form a community, especially in the face of challenges. We keep up the collective spirit and lead the club into a bright future ahead! 🚀 #WUMA #AlumniSpotlight #logo #design Daniela Gonçalves Niklas S. Social Media Marketing is of growing importance in today's hyper-digital world and our members got to craft a social media strategy for a small business. Recently, WUMA partnered with "If Dogs Run Free", a trendy bar and established small business in Vienna. Our members were at their collaborative best as they worked on putting together a cohesive Instagram strategy on how If Dogs Run Free could improve its Instagram page, which would lead to more visibility among its target audience. This event helped understand how to work on crafting a proper social media strategy in real-world situations. Photos by Jakob Mueller #WUMA #SMEMarketing #Creative #Workshop Niklas S. If you're a foreign student in Austria, here's something to consider: you can always go back home, but the chance to reside in one of the most liveable cities in the world won’t come around every day 🌍 Julie Sufana graduated the MSc Marketing - WU Vienna in 2018 and has stayed in Vienna ever since. Today, she is Chief Marketing Officer for the software startup contextflow. She emphasises the endurance and persistence it takes to navigate the Austrian job market. As language can become a barrier in your job search, it is important to know the good avenues for English speakers: 1️⃣ Startups present a great learning environment and mostly function in English 2️⃣ Large corporations with regional offices tend to have English-speaking roles and diverse international teams While you're in Vienna, make the most of it by building your network - before you need one. Attend events, ask for informational interviews on LinkedIn, or volunteer at a club like WUMA 🤝 Networking isn’t just a job-hunting tool, it’s a lifelong practice! Julie landed her job thanks to a connection made during the Master’s. So don’t hesitate - make as many friends and connections as possible, and you'll be surprised how it can shape your career 🎓💼 We are happy to have Julie as part of our community! #WUMA #alumni #career #Alumnispotlight Daniela Gonçalves Jakob Mueller Stephan Flattinger Marcel Kilic Aayush Lalit Ranka Nikolian Valchev

New work models - a glimpse into jobsharing at Beiersdorf Our members are looking to enter a job market that meets their progressive needs - and our attention was recently pointed towards an innovative job-sharing model at a joint event with currycom communication partners and Marketing Natives. When we listened to Natalia Musat and Lisa Bilek-Knöbl talking about their work in coordinating influencer campaigns, they expressed a passion for their particular job model - they share one position! Both contributing 2.5 workdays to make up one fulltime job, the two managers are able to leverage their specific expertise and experience collected in years of working with the company. As Natalia puts it, the role has "one mouth, but two brains" - enriching the capacity of the position. How do they navigate the tricky parts of sharing responsibility and the same job profile? On top of their individual mail adresses, they have a shared inbox which they use to act as a singular stakeholder towards other colleagues. Once a week, they hold an elaborate handover meeting to ensure that no tasks are lost when passing from one person to the other. As inspiring as it is to see such a job model in practice, the panelists highlighted the effort it takes to get such a model approved and supported. Still, after successfully pitching the concept they are now able to lead the evolution of jobsharing by providing an example of great collaboration. Great to see such modern ways of working applied even in a big corporation! #WUMA #insights #jobs #marketing Daniela Gonçalves Niklas S. Innovation meets influencer - a formula for success in marketing? This week, we got invited to currycom communication partners for an exciting panel with Austrian influencers and #FMCG brands! Natalia Musat and Lisa Bilek-Knöbl emphasised that influencer campaigns are a vital part of 360* brand activations. Together with Caroline Bayer and Anna Unterweger, Beiersdorf (NIVEA) has been creating very powerful influencer campaigns resulting in millions of views across social media platforms, increasing awareness for new products. The panelists highlighted the importance of authentic content to introduce innovative products to the market. Influencers can play a key role, as they deeply connect to their audiences. Especially in skincare, testimonials can make a product more popular and influence consumer purchase decisions at the shelf. Partnering with communication agencies, brands work rigorously to ensure the right brand, influencer & platform fit! This event was possible because of our ongoing partnership with Marketing Natives - thank you very much for the great collaboration! #WUMA #marketing #influencer #panel Niklas S. Is community-building easier said than done? As part of our new partnership with Marketing Natives, we joined their recent signature event on the power of communities and were delighted by the variety of speakers! From social enterprises creating student participation in Austrian high schools to the organisers of Vienna‘s run club Runtastic GmbH (adidas), the evening was all about creating and sustaining a valuable community. Here is what we found: 🤝 Trust is key. Communicate transparently to your stakeholders and care about their needs ⌛ Community-building takes time. Expect at least three years to have a vibrant community up and running WUMA is also a community that requires the care and effort in order to flourish. To create the best value proposition for our members, we are focusing on strategic partnerships like this one. We are looking forward to the next activities with you, Marketing Natives! #WUMA #students #marketing #community #partnership #WU Daniela Gonçalves Nikolian Valchev Niklas S.
