Today is Nyawir- #RMIT and Voula #Holmesglen students last placement day at AAFRO. We are thankful that we were able to contribute to their learnings and development by introducing them into the direct practice and Ubuntu way of working with disadvantaged and vulnerable people. Our organisation stays committed to help others to integrate into the social and community welfare sectors. We are proud of what we are achieving with the little resources we have. Congratulations and good luck to both Nyawir and Voula in their next journey. #communitybuilding #togetherness #futureleaders

AAFRO aims to alleviate the poverty and distress experienced by vulnerable young people and their families.
About us
The Australian African Foundation for Retention and Opportunity (AAFRO) is an organisation created and driven by African communities in Melbourne to build a bridge between young people from a range of cultures and the wider Australian community. The organisation hosts forums and activities to promote positive mutual engagement with schools, and the local community with the aim of securing partnerships and sponsorship of educational programs, skills workshops and community outreach in order to advance the self-development of young Australians and their families. AAFRO takes a holistic approach to developing young Australians, through an emphasis on educational assistance, work and life skills, the family environment and wider community. AAFRO has the following objectives: • To directly assist, encourage and facilitate the integration into Australian society of new arrivals through education, cultural and practical advice and to re-establish economic and emotional independence so as to assist in overcoming the effects of, poverty, domestic violence, distrust of law enforcement authorities and distress caused by war and related events. • To assist and support young new arrivals by assisting in fluency in the English language and life skills. • To develop and provide policies and programs in relation to the prevention of homelessness, isolation and unlawful activity, and to provide educational opportunities to improve economic and social circumstances for youth at risk and who are known to the justice system. • To allow AAFRO to assist families and youth within other countries.

As the school holidays approach, many young people are in need of positive and enriching activities to keep them engaged, active, and learning. Unfortunately, not all families have the resources to provide these opportunities. We call on the community to come together and help raise funds to ensure that every young person has the chance to participate in fun, educational, and enriching activities this holiday season. Your contribution, no matter the size, can make a real difference in a young person’s life, giving them the chance to explore new interests, develop skills, and form lasting memories. Together, we can create a holiday season full of opportunity, joy, and growth for the youth in our community. Donate or Purchase a T-shirt today and help make these holidays unforgettable for those who need it most 😀 https://lnkd.in/gBeCXJ8A

Beat The Time (#BTT) school holidays program by AAFRO was a finalist of the Child and Youth Empowerment Award - Commission for Children and Young People during the 2024 Victorian Protecting Children Award organised by DFFH. It's a heart felt to see the work of our amazing staff get recognise at state level. #BeatTheTime early intervention model has been a game changer in improving the lives of children, young people and their families. Its impact goes far beyond the gathering. We are here to help and we are ready to do more when more resources become available. We are also celebrating with our partners in The Putting Families First program for winning the Robin Clark Making a Difference Award. We thank #DFFH for putting such meaningful event like the 2024 Victorian Protecting Children Award ceremony. Read more about the winners and finalists.👇 https://lnkd.in/dBsT3N-V 👏👏👏👏June C. The article below is a wake up call to provide some support to low resourced charities like AAFRO. For many years we have volunteered to help children and young people struggling with their educational subjects - from primary to high school. At AAFRO we have been aware of this issue for sometime now. Therefore, we have been responding through our early intervention education support program such as AAFRO #Live2Learn where we dedicate time on our weekends volunteering to support the literacy and numeracy skills of children and young people falling behind. https://lnkd.in/gUCUpj6J #togetherness #aafroLive2Learn #futuregeneration

Hello network and supporters; Friday is about to finish and the weekend is about to start. We are putting something for you to get ready and stay connected with AAFRO. In the last two weeks here are some highlights from our community work: 1. , we completed the #BeatTheTime school holidays activities during term 2 school breaks, with more than 30 children and young people attending on average through the holidays. 2. Our case managers and support workers maintained active work ethics to support those who are in need of help to navigate some of the challenges they are facing. This includes women and teenagers. 3.last Saturday, we activated AAFRO #Live2Learn, an online education support program for students from primary to high schools . This program has been running for many years, changing the lives of vulnerable children and young people who are in need for help. 4. we have advertised a community connector role for South East and it's still open. Here is the job link and feel free to share it with your network.👇 https://lnkd.in/dxnRxH4u 5.. We have a new staff who joined us in the Goulburn and we are excited about it. On how to help AAFRO please email us on info@aafro.com.au Finally our charity is under resources and any support will help us to make a difference. Wishing everyone a great weekend. We are thrilled to shine a spotlight on Manny a Year 11 student from Ballarat who has dedicated his school holidays to making a significant impact through our Beat the Time School Holiday Program. Over the past two weeks, Manny has not only travelled to join us but has also immersed himself wholeheartedly in our mission to empower young people through mentorship and meaningful engagement. From day one, Manny has exemplified dedication and compassion. His commitment to mentoring other young people and also being mentored has been nothing short of inspiring. Manny is a future leader with a lot of potential ahead of him. AAFRO organization provides a wrap around support for families and young people. Beat the Time school holiday model goes far beyond the holidays, it creates volunteering opportunities for future young professionals, connecting siblings and others extended family members. It also allows parents and guardians to stay in their everyday employment. We thank all the volunteers and staff who contributed to the wellbeing of the children and young people during the break. With the right resourcing we can build a strong community. Jiress Musafiri June C.
