📚 Advancing and simplifying access to academic resources 📚 Research4Life, in partnership with UbuntuNet Alliance and GÉANT—with support from the EU and the #AfricaConnect3 project—are making secure, seamless access to academic resources a reality for institutions across Eastern and Southern Africa. Through the Federated Single Sign-On (SSO) pilot, students and researchers can now securely access academic content with their institutional credentials, removing the need for shared passwords and enabling flexible, remote access. And the impact is already visible. Institutions served by the #NRENs of Kenya, Malawi, Zambia, and Uganda are benefiting from stronger security, simpler access, and uninterrupted connectivity. 🎓 The University of Nairobi shares their experience: “Staff and students can now seamlessly access a vast collection of peer-reviewed academic and professional resources using their individual institutional credentials. This upgrade strengthens security, simplifies access management, and removes the challenges associated with distributing and safeguarding shared institutional credentials.” This initiative is proving that collaboration is key to strengthening digital research ecosystems across the region! As a national research infrastructure provider, funded by the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (#NCRIS), we partner with fellow NCRIS capabilities to create a seamless, secure and globally connected research ecosystem. Last week, AAF's Portfolio Managers Sarah Thomas and Nick Rossow, and Communications Manager, Kerry Mora, were pleased to attend the NCRIS Forum held in Canberra, participating in valuable discussions regarding the next NCRIS Roadmap, project and Government updates and panel presentations. AAF is a part of the Digital Nexus Alliance (DNA) alongside partners Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC), AARNet (Australia's Academic and Research Network), National Computational Infrastructure, Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre. The DNA panel discussed the importance of driving coordination and collaboration across the digital research infrastructure ecosystem, ensuring Australian researchers are best supported to produce high quality, impactful research now and into the future. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with our NCRIS partners to develop a system-wide approach to access, enabling a more collaborative, researcher-centric and innovative national research ecosystem.
