For the upcoming federal election, the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) will again be offering mobile polling to all residential aged care facilities, where there are 10 or more beds. The AEC is currently looking for around 100,000 people to work at the next federal election to take place at any point between now and May 2025. This includes approximately 1,200 people required for mobile polling at residential aged care facilities for their residents. If you, or someone you know, is interested in working for the AEC, they can register their interest via the the AEC website > https://lnkd.in/gaaAyDG

We’re delighted to showcase South Australia’s Clayton Church Homes newest stunning #agedcare offering – Summerhill in Uraidla in the Adelaide Hills – in our Aged Care Today magazine. Complimenting the rolling hills and quiet township, the meticulously designed 60-bed aged care home is intentionally single-level and arranged as a #smallhouse model, with no hint of institutionalised living. Summerhill was designed by Mario Dreosti, Managing Director of Brown Falconer architects in Adelaide and built by Kennett Builders, whose intricate attention to detail particularly the stonemasonry won them a Master Builders SA award in 2024. ACCPA is partnering with the Fronditha Care Foundation to promote cultural diversity within the Australian aged care workforce. This campaign celebrates our culturally diverse aged care workforce and promotes inclusivity, understanding, and respect. We are proud to launch a video highlighting the vital contributions of aged care workers from diverse cultural backgrounds. The video features staff from Fronditha Care in Victoria sharing their valuable insights and diversity good practice stories. Through this video we can bring attention to cultural diversity in the aged care workforce, and emphasise the importance of respect, inclusivity, and appreciation for their life-changing work. The passing of the Retirement Villages Amendment Bill through both houses of the South Australian Parliament will herald a new era of increased transparency for retirement living in the state. Key changes include: ✅ Clearer contracts with defined terms, rights, and responsibilities. ✅ Strengthened financial reporting and resident consultation. ✅ Capped recurrent charges tied to CPI. ✅ Statutory buyback period reduced to 12 months. ✅ Capital Replacement Fund contributions capped at 12.5% of sale price (retrospective). Our CEO Tom Symondson celebrates this milestone: “The Bill strikes a balance between residents and providers to ensure older South Australians are living their best lives in retirement in their accommodation of choice." With enhanced protections and clarity, older Australians can invest in their future with confidence. Read more in our media release > https://lnkd.in/gPfhVWyV #ACCPA #SouthAustralia #RetirementLiving

In July this year, a group of aged care executives from Australia took a Studying and Advancing Global Eldercare SAGE Executive Study Tours to France’s Bordeaux region to explore innovative aged care models across residential care, home care and retirement living. For tour participants Canberra-based Tamra MacLeod, who is the Executive Manager of Clinical and Health Care services at Goodwin Aged Care Services and her colleague Jamie Fillingham, who is Goodwin’s Executive Manager of Home Care and Business Transformation, the highlight was the Alzheimer Village known as Landais in Dax in southern France, which is pioneering best-practice and evidence-based dementia care. Today marks a historic moment for aged care in Australia, as the new Aged Care Act has officially been enshrined into law following its passage by the Senate last week, and through the Lower House earlier this afternoon. This new Act will replace the current Aged Care Act, which was drafted back in 1997. We take this opportunity to again thank the Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, the Minister for Health and Aged Care, Mark Butler, and the Minister for Aged Care, Anika Wells, for their leadership and dedication to these reforms. We also extend our gratitude to Opposition Leader The Hon. Peter Dutton MP and Shadow Minister Anne Ruston for supporting this important legislation and being willing to work with providers to ensure critical improvements, such as the removal of criminal penalties. Our cover story in our spring issue of Aged Care Today features one of two innovative charitable programs running at Melbourne’s Lifeview Residential Care aged care homes. Lifeview Paying it Forward is raising funds for six local charitable causes, while Lifeview Re-Cycle is donating restored second-hand bicycles back into the community. Residents are actively involved in these heartwarming initiatives, and it’s clear to see the benefits.
