  • Breast Self-Checks What you’re looking for: • lumps • painful areas (tenderness) • skin that’s dimpled, flattened, puckered, different in any way • changes in breast shape, colour or size • nipple changes • nipple discharge • itching, rash or discolouration. What do if you notice any changes. Book to see your GP straight away. Your doctor will examine you, talk with you about your symptoms and health, and arrange for any follow-up testing that’s needed. Keep in mind that only a small number of changes and lumps turn out to be breast cancer. Some changes are quite normal and can happen because of menstruation, pregnancy, breast feeding or aging. Your doctor will be able to guide you. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gpGKhZy6 #breastaware #breastchecks #screening #selfchecks #carolinesprings #activemedical

  • Breast cancer can develop in women of any age, even young women. The earlier it’s found, the much better chance you have of surviving it. It’s recommended you do breast self-checks each month from your 20s onwards to help with early detection. Getting to know the normal look and feel of your breasts can help you notice any changes that could indicate cancer or another problem. Making a regular habit to check your breasts is the smartest choice. Many women choose a day of the month (often the first day of each month) and set a calendar, diary or alarm reminder to make sure they don’t forget. Breast self-checks and breast screening with your GP can play a very important role in being breast aware. • Incidental exercise is any kind of physical activity that happens as part of something else you’re doing. This type of exercise often goes unnoticed because it doesn’t feel like traditional workouts or require much effort. Examples include taking the stairs instead of the elevator, choosing a car park at the shopping centre that’s not close to the entry, using a standing desk at work, and stretching during commercial breaks while watching TV. Other methods for incorporating incidental exercise: Set small goals – Start by setting achievable goals such as adding an extra 500 steps per day or walking up one flight of stairs each morning before work; once these goals become easy to accomplish set new ones! Take advantage of opportunities – Look for opportunities in your daily life where you can add movement such as taking a walk on your lunch break or getting off the bus one stop early so you have to walk further home after work; these small adjustments add up over time! Every movement should be an opportunity, not a chore. Remember, sitting for long hours can be harmful and can even be dangerous. We should try to get up and do some active movement every 30 minutes or so, especially if we have a job that requires us to sit for most of the day. Make it fun – Turn exercising into a game by challenging yourself with different tasks such as seeing how many flights of stairs you can climb in 10 minutes or trying out new routes when going for walks around town; this will make exercises less tedious and more enjoyable! Incorporating incidental exercise into your everyday life doesn’t have to be difficult—in fact, it should be fun! Why not give incidental exercise a try. Who knows—you might just find yourself enjoying it! If you’re unsure of how to start, make an appointment to speak with your doctor.
