It's been a busy period for the AFLPA, we completed our second run of AFLW club visits, with two key focus areas. Firstly, to discuss AFLW players key priority areas for advocacy and improvement, and secondly, to communicate AFLW off-season reforms, an important new structure that provides clarity for players and clubs during the summer months. Our Legal team Megan Comerford, Jessica Cao and Steven Slimming attended the annual Australian + New Zealand Sports Law Association (ANZSLA) conference in Sydney to learn more about the legal issues facing the sports industry. Sessions covered the current anti-doping system, sports broadcasting and regulatory challenges in the digital age, and the rights of professional athletes to express themselves freely on political and religious issues, along with a keynote address from Kat Craig on protecting human rights in sport. AFLW player Ruby Schleicher made an appearance at KPMG Australia Family Fun Day, helping to raise funds and awareness as part of Fight Cancer's Footy Colours Day. Following their AFL Grand Final victory, the Brisbane Lions premiership team spent the day signing products as part of the 2024 Premiers licensed Memorabilia Program.

As the AFL season came to an end, we closed the lid on a busy September! We've begun the second round of AFLW club visits, which includes meeting with each club's playing groups, as well as their administration and management. These visits offer a valuable opportunity to connect with players, discuss key issues, and collect insights while working with club management so they continue to evolve their programs to support our members' needs. We hosted our AFL Grand Final event at the QT, where many of our valued partners and industry stakeholders attended. It was an excellent day with guest speakers including AFLPA President Patrick Dangerfield, former President Luke Power, former delegate Dan Hannebery and Mike Brady. We attended the Australian Football Media Awards to support our industry colleagues along with the Outer Sanctum, produced in collaboration with the AFLPA, who took home a Commendable Mention in the Best AFLW Program or Feature category. (Go Footy!) A number of our staff volunteered with our charity partner Ladder at the AFL Footy Festival. Ladder was the official charity of the 2024 Toyota AFL Finals Series, and sold replica Premiership Cup pins to raise vital funds for young people in need of positive intervention at critical times in their lives. We continued our 'Meet the Delegates' series by spotlighting Adelaide's Reilly O'Brien. As a player, delegate, and student at Torrens University, Reilly offers a unique perspective on balancing a playing career with personal development. We joined Torrens University Australia in Adelaide to celebrate their 10th anniversary. As our official education partner, Torrens offers scholarships to all AFL and AFLW players, as well as our alumni members. Currently, more than 100 AFL and AFLW players are enrolled at Torrens.
