Researchers have unveiled an updated Integrated Pest and Disease Management Manual, equipping truffle growers with sustainable strategies to protect their orchards and maintain their reputation for world-class produce. Key highlights: • Australia’s global standing: now the fourth largest truffle-producing country, Australia exported over 11 tonnes of truffles in 2023, valued at over $9 million. • Innovative pest management: the manual includes alternative pest management options such as biological control, mass trapping, and organic insecticides. • Weed management alternatives: field trials assessed methods like flame weeding and organic herbicides, aiming to reduce the use of chemical herbicides. The project was supported by the Department of Primary Industries & Regional Development, in collaboration with the Applied Agricultural Remote Sensing Centre (AARSC), through funding from AgriFutures Australia. It’s happening. And there’s a buzz about it. 🎙️ Find out on how on the latest episode of SEEDED for Agrifutures on Air.
