Have you ever seen a Cam Automatic Lathe in action? 👀 Step inside the Alasco Engineering Workshop, where in addition to our 23 CNC Lathes, we still have 4 of their predecessors - original 1950s Automatic Lathes used by the previous 3 generations of our Family Business. Take a look at the first op on this 316 Stainless Steel Lid Adaptor👀 We took a piece of 270mm diameter solid 316 rod and our Mori Seiki NL2500 machined off 20.2kgs of material in total🫨💪🏽 While we can't share the finished product, this Lid Adaptor was for the Oil and Gas industry. Happy Friday Folks! 🎉  Here's a photo of some brass inserts we often make for a long standing client. These two types of inserts are made from a brass hollow bar, with a BSP thread. (Which, for those who don't know, stands for British Standard Pipe). These inserts are for use in the plastic moulding industry. Mild Steel components might look lovely and shiny immediately post machining, however - mild steel can tend to rust easily. So to keep your components looking good, what are your best options? 👀👇 ⚙ Zinc Plating involves applying a thin layer of zinc metal to the surface of a component through electrical deposition. Zinc plating can be applied in varying finishes, from a zinc yellow look to a zinc trivalent blue. Zinc can be applied in varying thicknesses and assists in preventing rust and maintaining surface finishes. 🔧 Galvanising involves coating the mild steel with a zinc layer through a dipping process offering enhanced protection against rust and corrosion. Galvanising tends to be a much thicker coating, and in turn offers up to 5 times the rust protection than zinc. 🖌 Painting involves applying a coat of paint over the steel to offer barrier protection from atmospheric elements. Painting often tends to be an aesthetic fix only, and doesn't generally provide long lasting protection from rust and corrosion. 🎨 Powder Coating is the application of dry powder and curing by heating to make a layer highly resistant to corrosion and wear. We've had a batch of 2000 running on our Miyano ABX Triple Turret Lathe.👌🏼 🖥With the ability to program simultaneous milling and drilling, along with some balanced turning, we've produced these with a very fast cycle time - meaning we amp up our capacity⤴ whilst saving our client a few pennies!
