We’re proud to support the Climate Action Pays Off campaign which was launched by the Investor Group on Climate Change (IGCC) earlier in October. Home-grown clean energy is Australia’s ticket to a better financial future, and we believe it’s important to showcase the great strides we’ve already taken as the Government considers our next steps towards limiting global warming to 1.5°C by 2050. Check out how Trent’s experience of the 2019 bushfires turned his attention to making buildings sustainable. There are many climate-impacted Australians like Trent using their experience to protect our future. https://lnkd.in/gMXvSYbY #ClimateActionPaysOff #ClimateAction #EthicalInvesting Persephone Fraser, Alison George, Kate Saunders, Maria Loyez, Mara Bún

Last week was a big one for the UNSW Institute for Climate Risk & Response with our Early Career Researcher (ECR) Workshop on Wednesday and our Industry Forum on Thursday. Both events were very well-attended and I was truly inspired by the depth and breadth of conversations, insights and discussions. When we launched the ICRR last year a key goal was to build a new generation of inter-disciplinary scholars focused on ‘climate translation’. The ECR event was a realization of this goal – with presentations from PhD students, Postdocs and young industry-professionals on topics ranging from the impact of climate change on crop yields, to factors driving trust in climate scientists, via the discussion of ‘what is a drought?’ and how do we best frame solutions for climate change. We all learned a great deal, and not only about the topics, but also about the way each discipline works, and can work together. I received lots of really positive feedback from participants, and it was heartening to see the ‘inter-disciplinary’ conversations continuing during the breaks and networking. A second key goal of the ICRR is to drive engagement with industry and government. Our Industry Forum was a realization of that goal. From the stirring opening address by The Hon. Matt Kean who urged us to be ambitious in pursuing climate-positive policy, through to the end of day with our discussion of the potential for Australia to lead on climate action, the attendees were exposed to a range of voices, perspectives and data all pointing to productive ways in which we can collaborate to address the risks and opportunities of climate change. A big thank you to all of our speakers and panelists at both events, and congratulations to our winners at the ECR Workshop (pictured below) - all very well deserved! Many thanks also to our sponsors for both events Aon, QBE Insurance, and Altius Asset Management, to the UNSW Institute for Climate Risk & Response team who all pulled together to make both days so successful and to UNSW Science, UNSW Business School, and UNSW Law & Justice for their continuing support for the ICRR. It’s great when a plan comes together!
This week Altius Asset Management became part of Australian Ethical Investment As a team we are very excited by the opportunities ahead of us – combining our deep expertise in responsible fixed income with Australian Ethical’s strong heritage in ethical investment. We would also like to thank Australian Unity Wealth and the many great people there. We count ourselves fortunate to have worked with them for the past 13 odd years since Altius was founded in 2011. Pleasingly, our close relationship continues as Altius will still manage cash and fixed income portfolios for Australian Unity - something we consider a great vote of confidence in our future at Australian Ethical

Reposting this piece from 2022 Highlights the reason we can still not bank on rate cuts in Oz this year Even after expansionary monetary and fiscal policies designed for the crises are unwound, climate related investment spending and adjustment to the established world order for global trade and security will "undermine the winning strategies of just-in-time inventory management, long supply chains and blithe assumptions about conflict-free operation of capital markets, export markets and the movement of labour. These deflationary business optimisation strategies will almost certainly prove to be "fair-weather" friends".
Active bond managers like Altius Asset Management have been dusting off inflation strategies to deal with the impact of Covid related fiscal and monetary stimulus combined with supply-side disruption. Is it transitory or is climate change set to take the wheel? #climatechange #inflation #bonds
